Robert J. Eden Obituary

Robert "Bob" John Eden, beloved husband of Nell Fanning Eden, went to be with Jesus, in Heaven, on Saturday, April 26, 2014. He died peacefully in his sleep following complications of pneumonia, at Physician's Regional Hospital, in Naples, Florida. Bob, an only child, was born to Louise and John Eden, on May 5, 1932, in Queens Village, Queens, NY. As a teenager, Bob loved hunting squirrels and rabbits in the parks of Queens. He especially enjoyed fly fishing, and would often leave home at 4:00 am, with a friend, to hitchhike to the New York reservoirs to fish. Bob also loved flying, and as a teenager, after receiving his pilot's license, Bob and a friend co-owned a small airplane, and in the "olden days", before many regulations, he would fly his craft under the George Washington Bridge. Bob graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, and then went on to receive his Aeronautical Engineering Degree, from College of Aeronautics, in New York City. After graduation, and prior to joining United Technologies, Bob served in the United States Air Force. He worked for United Technologies Corporation for 40 years as an engineer, salesman of helicopters, and then into management. His career afforded him travel to much of the world on aeronautical business. Later in life, with his beloved wife, Nell, Bob enjoyed domestic and international travel. Fond memories for him were canoeing on Lake Louise, and a visit to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. They enjoyed a timeshare in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where Bob donated time and resources to the local Salvation Army, which was dear to his heart. Bob immensely enjoyed worship and service at Valley Community Baptist Church, in Avon, and spending time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by them, and all who knew him. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Leah Johnson Eden, in September, 1992. He is survived by his loving and devoted family, including a daughter and son-in law, Laura and Bart Heemskerk of Longmeadow, MA, their two sons, William Heemskerk and James Heemskerk; a son and daughter-in-law, James Robert Eden and Joan Arlene Eden of Bethel, and their children, Charles Robert Eden and Amanda Grace Eden, and three stepchildren and their families, Lori Fanning Blomberg and son-in-law Robert Blomberg of Simsbury, and their three children, Katherine Mae Blomberg, Anna Rachel Blomberg and Mark Robert Blomberg; Beth Fanning Jadovich of Avon, and four children, Lauren Elizabeth Jadovich, Matthew David Jadovich, Caroline Elva Jadovich, and Elizabeth Katherine Jadovich; and Scott Wellington Fanning and daughter-in-law Kimberly Crew Fanning of Avon, and their two children, Claire Crew Fanning and Charlotte Crew Fanning; A Brother-in-law Paul Johnson and wife Meg, of Guilford, and several nieces and nephews. A Christian Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 10:30 am, at Valley Community Baptist Church, 590 West Avon Road, Avon. All are welcome and light refreshments will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bob's name, to either the Salvation Army, PO Box 628, Hartford, CT 06103 or to the Gideons International, PO Box 1490800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
