George M. Brescia Obituary


George Mathew Brescia, Sr., 73, of Orleans, MA (formerly of West Hartford and Avon, CT) passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018, after a short battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family at Cape Cod Hospital. George was born in Hartford, CT on February 9, 1945. He was the son of Katherine (Vendetta) Brescia and Joseph Brescia. George began his electrical career in the supply industry at Capital Light and Supply in Hartford eventually owning his own business, Central Electric Supply. He went on to become the President of Ducci Electrical Contractors in Torrington, CT where he remained for 25 years. He also worked at Ferguson Electric, owned Mafco Electric and retired from Rizzo Electric to his favorite place on the Cape. George was an active member and usher at St. Joan of Arc church in Orleans. Along with his loving wife Ann (Kelleher) Brescia, George is survived by his sons George M. Brescia, Jr. and husband John Burke of New York, Todd W. Brescia of Bloomfield CT, step-children Sharon Kelleher Menard and husband Howie of Boca Raton, FL and Richard Kelleher and wife Amy of Newington, CT. He also leaves 4 brothers: Jim and his wife Ruth Brescia of Boynton Beach, FL, Joseph Brescia of Port St. Lucie, FL, John and his wife Sandy Brescia of East Hartford, CT, and William Brescia of Port St. Lucie, FL; along with 5 cherished grandchildren: Brian and Mitchell Kelleher and Celeste, Bryce and Janelle Menard, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. George "Big George" Brescia was a larger than life personality whose love for golf was almost as deep as his love for his family. He will be missed by many who will remember him for his funny stories, love of Italian sausage and his ability to burst out in song at any moment. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George's family at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans on Thursday, February 22 from 4-7PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church, Orleans on Friday, February 23 at 11 AM with a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held in CT in March. In lieu of flowers a donation in George's memory may be made to the Cape Cod Hospital or St. Vincent DePaul Society (www.svdpusa.org).
