Robert Herdlein Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Thomas Herdlein announces his passing on June 11, 2018 at the age of 64 after a period of declining health. Bob was born and raised by the late Mr. Robert S. Herdlein and Mrs. Marion (Luddy) Herdlein of New Britain, CT. He worked locally for years in hospital settings and, in more recent years, he worked extensively in website design for The Seattle Children's Hospital, The Evergreen State College, and most recently with The Tree Care Industry Association. Robert's true passion in life was parenting his two children. Rob's other passion in life was his artwork. His favorite mediums were assemblages, acrylic on canvas paintings, and found art. Related to his love of the arts was his focus on community service in the arts, and the art education of youth, especially those in minority and low-income communities, while he lived in Seattle, WA. Rob found great joy in supporting adults facing some of life's most difficult challenges in southern New Hampshire. He will live on through this children's love of the outdoors and cars, his daughter's love of the obscure, his son's love of sports, in the art and music he created, in the hearts of all his animals and the dogs he fostered, in the creativity and curiosity he inspired in those close to hm, in the souls of those he loved and those who do not color within the lines. Robert Herdlein will be lovingly remembered by his two children; Anna R. Herdlein of Lowell, MA and Matthew S. Herdlein of Manchester, NH; by three of his best friends; Sharon Herdlein of Manchester, New Hampshire, Dr. Barbara Jago of Bedford, New Hampshire and Connie Montgomery of Seattle, Washington; Dr. Thomas Kelly, Dr. Carol Haddad and Laura Kelly of Londonderry, New Hampshire; along with many relatives and friends. Friends and family are invited to attend a gathering for Robert on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 5p-7p at Goodwin Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 607 Chestnut Street, Manchester, NH 03104. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Brown Dog Coalition & Rescue, Ltd of Hopkinton, MA at www.browndogcoalition.com/donate or [email protected]. I am at a loss of words to express how sad I am to learn of Bob's passing.WE had a friendship than spanned over 50 years.
Bob always had a kind word to say and always had a positive attitude. Bob was a true friend,I remember when we were kids, Bob,Chucky,Jimmy,Eddie and myself would ride our bikes into Berlin, sometimes to play baseball or basketball or just to take our usual weekend trips!!
BOB YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN ! GOD BLESS YOU and YOUR FAMILY!!

Bob was the best Dad to Anna & Matthew. He attended all of their school and sporting events, was never too busy for them and laid the groundwork for them to become mature & responsible adults. While we will all miss you and your sense of humor very much, your legacy will live on. From Sharon, your circus partner!

Have fond memories of working with him at NBGH decades ago. He was always in a good mood even while working nights. Of course, working nights together meant that even when I was a patient, he visited me at 3am! Lost touch with him unfortunately. RIP Bob. Thoughts and prayers for his children and family.

I am so sorry for the loss of your father and friend. I remember "Bobby" when I was a young child over the house frequently, and how happy my brother Chuck was when he came often to visit from NH during Chuck's struggle with cancer. Friendships may seem to disappear with time and distance, but Bob showed that love and true friendships never end.

Sincerely,

I was deeply saddened to learn the news of Bob's passing. We grew up together on Glen St. and he was a dear friend to my brother Chuck. Chuck, Eddie Smith and Bobby were always together in their youth; now all of them are together again.

Bob and I stayed in touch through the years, and I was so impressed with his wonderful artwork. My husband and I are privileged to have two of his gorgeous works of art hanging in our home.

Our deepest condolences to his children, Anna and Matthew, and to his family and friends.

With love, Phyl Ponte
