It is with great sadness that the family of Carole L. Gauger announce her passing after her brave battle with cancer. Carole Gauger (Lorimer) of Harwinton, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday February 11. Carole is survived by her husband of 37 years, Mark D. Gauger; their two daughters, Shawna Johnson of Orange and Brittany Mayzler of Orange; her sons-in-law, Christopher Johnson and Lev Mayzler; four grandchildren, Maris Johnson (11), Chase Johnson (8), Sydney Mayzler (6), and Adley Mazlyer (3); her uncle Harold Parkes of Troy, NY; her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Jim Murton of East Vassalborro, ME; and countless family and friends from Maine to Texas. Carole was born in Bridgeport, CT, to Iris and Robert Lorimer, and grew up in Trumbull, CT. She graduated from Trumbull High in 1976, and went to Southern Connecticut State University, where she earned multiple degrees in Special Education and Assistive Technology. Carole's passion in life was teaching and educating. She was a Special Education teacher at Martin Kellogg Middle School in Newington for 28 years, retiring in 2018. In addition to working in the public school system, she was also a professor of Special Education at the University of Bridgeport. Together with her husband, Mark, they have operated Maple View Farm since 1990. Although gone far too soon, Carole will always be remembered for her love of travel, phenomenal cooking expertise, and ability to master many crafts (sewing, quilting, spinning wool, and knitting). Carole shared a loving bond with her daughters and her grandchildren, who adored their Oma. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held on The Farm in Spring 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carole's name can be made to Tredwell Hospice, Venice, FL.
