James Lassam Obituary

James P. Lassam, 85, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Livia (Zentil) Lassam, died Saturday, (September 15, 2001) at Meadowbrook of Granby. He was born July 5, 1916 in Harrow, Middlesex, England, son of the late John and Gertrude (Minette) Lassam and had lived in Simsbury for 40 years. Mr. Lassam was an Aeronautical Engineer and after graduation, he served his apprenticeship at DeHaviland Aircraft in Southhampton, England. He then moved to Ontario, Canada, where he worked for AVRO Corp. In 1961 Mr. Lassam moved to the United States working for Kaman Corp. in Bloomfield for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1981. He was a wonderful husband, a devoted father, and an avid traveler, sailor and skilled furniture maker. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Hyman Muss of Shelburne, VT, Karen and Thomas Thornhill of Dover, MA; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Lassam of Toronto, Canada; a brother, Robert E. Lassam of Bath, England; seven grandchildren, Nina and Claire Lassam, Matthew and Marah Thornhill, Jonathan and Daniel Muss and Sarah (Muss) Ficociello. He was predeceased by a beloved son, Norman Lassam; and a brother, John Lassam. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 17, 10 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, Church St., Tariffville. There are no calling hours. Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, has charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163.
