Edwin Thrall Obituary

Edwin G. Thrall, died on Easter Sunday, (April 20, 2003) leaving his loving and always devoted wife of 48 years, Olive "Flicka" Thrall. He was born on October 5, 1918, and was a lifelong resident of East Windsor. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janett and Douglas Moore; and two grandchildren, Natalie and Tim Moore, all of Tolland. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Minot Ring who resided with him and helped with his care. He was predeceased by his brother Leonard; and leaves two sisters-in-law; seven nieces, and two nephews. He had many friends, including Karen and Bob Alford who were always there when he needed them. Ed worked as a farmer and a bulldozer operator for many years and served as a selectman of East Windsor in the 1960's. He was an avid collector throughout his life with his most recent collection being doorknobs. But Ed is best known for his creation of The Building. He will long be remembered for being a man of strong principle who went to great lengths to fight for what he believed in. Funeral services will be Monday, 1 p.m. at the Windsorville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Windsorville Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, on Sunday, 6-8 p.m. The family would like to thank the many nurses and aids from VNHS who cared for Ed over the years. A special thanks to Anna Saffer who cared for him so well. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Central Hospice, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.

Dear Janet, I'm so sorry to learn of Uncle Ed's passing. I have been on vacation so just learned of his death today, otherwise I would have been at the wake and funeral. I'll be talking to you soon.

Ed, you did your utmost to obstruct the ongoing march of government tyranny, and so did all you could to protect and advance human liberty. There can be no higher achievement in life. Rest in peace.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Ed Thrall. Although we all grieve in his passing, we can be comforted in the knowledge that the Lord had long ago made a place for Ed to call his eternal home. I am honored to have had the pleasure to call him “friend”. I look forward to the time when we shall meet again.

Mr. Thrall's family should be proud that he stood for what he thought was right. People must never forget that our country was found on these very principles. God Bless.

Mr. Thrall was a real bright spot in East Windsor, a fighter and an idealist, and the dance hall was a beautiful creation. May God uphold the Thrall family in this time of loss.

Thanks for supporting your husband/father all those years during the struggle, formerly of Rockvillle, I admired so much a man who fought for others ' rights along with his when he fought for the right to dance on his own property..I hope the Town of East Windsor is properly ashamed of the many good times and hours they took away from his family and the rest of us, in their quest of "might makes right"..many people took a renewed interest in the Constitution and their individual rights in it,a nd were helped. I think the Town Historian,if they let the town have one, should memorialize Ed in a ballad and/or The Buiding should have a historical plaque..I did not know him personally but feel I did through his beliefs that rang through the hearts of everyone who knew what he was standing up for..as it was truly for all of us..Thank you for sharing him with us in this way and for what you all had to go through and give up as a family , here's hoping those who harassed him so hard will have also learned what a good man he was as well, and will be more reasonable to the next man who wants to live within his rights, not their aberrations of those rights for their own purposes...He was a good man who did the right thing, God Bless you, Doreen St.Louis Carpenter
