Kenneth Roden Obituary

Kenneth Windsor Roden

Brooklyn, Mississippi

Kenneth Windsor Roden ,86, of Brooklyn died January 3, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Roden was born April 2, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was preceded in death by his first and second loving wives, Pauline and June and his sister, Eleanor Guy.

He worked for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company until he retired in 1985 and moved to Brooklyn, MS.

Ken loved his country and wanted to defend it. He entered the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17 by talking his parents into signing the necessary paperwork. He served proudly in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

One of his passions in life was sports. He loved to watch, and he loved to play! He had a love for baseball and played until he turned 80 years old. His Economy Supply teammates became his second family. He loved each of them dearly and treasured their visits when he was no longer able to play.

His prized possessions, a baseball bat belonging to Lou Boudreau, a Cleveland Indians player and manager, who went on to the Hall of Fame and an autograph by Jesse Owens who won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin He passed these on to his grandson, who proudly displays them in his home.

He was a avid hunter and fisherman but in his later years became the guardian and caregiver to the many animals that lived in the woods surrounding his home.

He is survived by daughters, Leeann Glasscock and Kyle Meyer, step daughters LeeAnn Freeman and Jackie Wagner, and step sons Roger, Allen and Robert Dettorre, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A grave side service will be held at 1:00 pm on January 19th, 2013, at 2005 Carnes Road, Brooklyn, MS with a celebration of his life to follow immediately after.

He asked that his cherished Economy Supply teammates serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the National Rifle Association and Southern Pines Animal Shelter located in Hattiesburg, MS.
