Doris Stanley, age 92, of Campbellsburg, passed away on Oct. 25, 2018, at Episcopal Church Home in Louisville. She was born Teodora Cernilogar on April 19, 1926, to Bartolomeo and Maria Cernilogar in Circhina, Italy.
She had three siblings, Francesko, Franca and Janes, all of whom are deceased. Doris met her husband, Webb S. Stanley, in Rome during World War II and they married on Oct. 24, 1945. She travelled to the U.S. alone via ship to New York and then train to Campbellsburg in 1946 while her husband finished his military service abroad. At the time of her arrival in the U.S. she did not speak any English. She became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. in 1955 and completed her GED in 1976. She worked all of her adult life ending her career as custodian at Campbellsburg Elementary School, a job which gave her great satisfaction. After retirement she spent her time caring for others and serving her church.
She is survived by her three children, Doris Ann Jones (Gary), Mary Helen England (Jim) and Webb I. Stanley (Sharon); five grandchildren, David Stanley, Jason Stanley (Angie), Megan Stanley Boyer (Bryan), Jennifer England Sumeracki (Brad) and Beth England Metcalf (Todd); and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at Ransdell Funeral Home, 7101 Campbellsburg Road, Campbellsburg. Reverend Carl Rucker officiated the services.
