1950 - 2019 Obituary Condolences

AVANELLE MASSIE, wife of Kenneth Massie, passed away Saturday, January 12, at Community Hospice Care Center of Ashland, Ky. Avanelle and Kenneth were married August 23, 1950, by Rev. William B. Key. Avanelle was born May 29, 1927, in Kitts Hill, Ohio, to the late Cecil W. and Chloe W. Dickess. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Dean and an infant brother; sisters, Alwilda Dickess and Mary Riggs. She was survived by her brother, Howard P. Dickess of Stoutsville, Ohio; a niece, Cynthia (Troy) Childers of Lebanon, Tenn.; three nephews, Howard "Howie" Dickess and Mark Dickess, both of Ironton, Ohio, and Paul (Jennifer) McCarthy of Argus, Ind.; a special nephew, Richard A. Dickess (Shirley) Dickess of Portsmouth, Ohio; two great-nephews, Rick (Stacy) Dickess and Kenny Dickess; and one great-niece, Kim (Scott) Coffman; her beloved precious African Grey Parrot, Cassie; and other great-nieces and -nephews as well as great-great-nieces and -nephews. Avanelle was of the Baptist faith and a 1945 graduate of Ironton High School. She worked in the Refractories industry for over 44 years. She loved all animals, birds, flowers and shrubs including wild flowers. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Barnes and Stacy Dickess officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, and visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019, and from noon until the time of the service Tuesday.
