FREEMAN, DOROTHY EDELSON, 87, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2013, in her home in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dorothy was formerly of Miami Beach and then Coral Gables. She was a Floridian since 1934 when she moved from Lancaster, Pa., with her parents, Harry and Anna Edelson, and sister, Gerry Goldman. Dorothy was the devoted mother of Harriet Rae Freeman and Steven Alan Freeman. Steve died tragically on October 23, 2008. The family takes comfort in knowing that Dorothy is now reunited with her beloved son, Steve. Dorothy graduated from Miami Beach High School and the University of Miami, cum laude. She had a career as a social welfare worker. Dorothy had a zest for life which everyone in the room could feel. Dorothy truly believed the world was her stage. She was fearless. She had been on more than 80 cruises. When a ship could not take her to the culture she wanted to experience, she went by land, visiting over 70 countries. Nothing would stop her from doing what she wanted, and she did it her way. Hers was a unique life well-lived. Dorothy's huge smile, although dimmed by her son's tragic death, will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Harriet Rae Freeman; niece, Leslie Goddin, daughter of her late sister, Gerry; and, the family of her late sister, Sylvia. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 1st, at 2:00pm, at Mount Nebo Cemetery, 5505 NW 3rd St., Miami - 305-267-7612. In lieu of flowers, any small donation in honor of Dorothy and Steve to New Focus in West Palm Beach (561-383-8049) or Fellowship House in Miami (305-667-1036) will be greatly appreciated.
