Miami Beach Community Development Corporation marks with sadness the passing of Seymour B. London.

In 1936 while preparing to enter Harvard Medical School he joined with his father, Benjamin London, and architect Kingston B. Hall in the design and development of The Seymour Hotel serving as vice president of the development / ownership company.  The building they developed has design style, grace and an urbanity that contributes to the positive urban character of the street, of the neighborhood, and of the pedestrian quality of our community.

Some sixty-five years later our organization selected The Seymour to acquire, rehabilitate and put into use to house our affordable housing development program and serve as a community center, building museum and regional resource for historic preservation, urban design and community development.  The building is an iconic representative of all the contributing buildings in the Miami Beach Art Deco Architectural District and we are so proud to call it home.

Seymour London and his wonderful wife, Rose Perrone London, went on to become physicians in our community practicing for 50 years and were local and national leaders of the medical profession with distinguished careers.

Rose and Seymour London met with us to share the family's story of the development and early operation of the property,  consulted with us as we developed plans for the rehabilitation of the building and attended the groundbreaking / construction commencement celebration on September 29, 1999.

We extend our condolences to all members of the family.
