James Michael Porter
December 14, 1956 - February 19, 2021
Miami, Florida - James Michael Porter passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2021, following a courageous 20 month battle with brain cancer. Having grown up in Miami, Jim was an avid boater and fisherman who loved to spend time with his family and dogs out on the water. As an Environmental attorney, he dedicated much of his career to protecting Biscayne Bay and The Florida Everglades. Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carole Porter, their children Kevin and Catherine Porter, his father, James Porter and sister, Terri Ann Porter. Due to the pandemic there will not be a service. At Jim's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Miami Waterkeeper in his name. Online at www.miamiwaterkeeper.org/donate or send checks to 2103 Coral Way, 2nd Floor, Miami, FL 33145.

Mr. Porter missed but not forgotten! Been 3 years since Jim left us and I think and talk about him often. On a recent trip on Biscayne Bay, a day with thick fog requiring slow idling, I sensed Porter was with me. His presence remained until the fog lifted. As I pushed the throttle forward I approached Midnight Pass in the Arsnickers. It hearkened my mind to a different time, a falling tide and bonefish tailing. Yep perfect!

I have not seen or spoken with Jim in a few decades, and I just learned of his passing. We worked together at H&K in the late 90s. Jim was a great guy, always with a smile and a positive outlook. So sad for this loss. My thoughts are with his family.

Jim and I were friends from the 1970's and college roommates. We were also neighbors. Yes Mr. Porter was obviously a great attorney and friend of the environment. He loved all fishing particularly flats fishing in Biscayne Bay. We also suba dived and bullyneted lobsters since 2012. I think Jim would also like people to remember he was a motorcycle enthusiast owning several bikes including a V-Max! Really good guy and I'll miss him
