Phillip Rogers Clark
November 24, 1933 - October 4, 2021
South Miami, Florida - Phillip was born and raised in Miami, youngest child of Bruce Greaves Clark and Esther Hall Turner, and grandson to Robert Post Clark, Miami pioneer who dredged the Miami River and developed Brickell. At a willowy 6 foot 2, Phil loved sports, playing football for Miami High and track and field at the University of Miami. He graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration after serving in the Army Airborne during the Korean War. Phillip joined the Dade County courts, working there for 30+ years as a fiscal administrator. That's where he met his future wife, Judith Hosford.
Phil loved the natural world and sports, following local teams with fervor, and sailing and sailboarding with his kids. He flew a small plane as a hobbyist after the war, taking family for spirited rides over Key Biscayne Bay. Phillip's favorite pastime in later years was watching local flora and fauna from his backyard's screened porch, life abounding in his South Miami neighborhood. He loved guava with cheese pastries, sweet plantains, and fresh fish. He has always had a big sweet tooth.
Phillip died at home Monday evening October 4, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Judith, his eldest sister Esther Knuck, his children: Jim & David Compton, and Rebecca & John Clark; and 7 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Frances Goff, and his brother Bruce "Buzz" Greaves Clark, Jr. Graveside service at Woodlawn North Cemetery Monday afternoon October 18, next to family interred there.
