BUTTON, RICHARD JOHN Passed away peacefully in his sleep November 16, 2016 after battling heart problems for years. Born in Rhodesia, Africa, he was a big baby who grew into a giant of a man. He started collecting plants in Africa as a teenager and collected plants around the world for the rest of his life. He not only introduced many plants to this country and was known as a true plantsman, but also hybridized dozens of plants. He was also known as a great and creative landscaper and designed many beautiful gardens in the Miami area. He had a phenomenal bass voice and sang with the South Dade Community Choir. Talented in Many ways he composed and sang over 200 songs in his time. During the past few years his music was Rekindled and he had just released a CD dedicated to his granddaughter called "Pelican Joe Kids" a children's CD about animals and the environment. He is survived by his son David (Anne Thieke) and granddaughter Ella Rose of Berlin, Esme Curling (Richard of Getafe, Spain, his beloved cousin Jessie (Robert) Button of South Africa, his partner in life, Dolores Fugina of Homestead and his fur buddy, Rambo. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 4th at 2 p.m. at City Church, 47 NW16th St., Homestead. His love for animals kept him travelling with dog and cat food in his car for starving animals he saw.
