BERMAN, SHIRLEY, 96, of Aventura, Florida, beloved wife of the late Harold (Hal) Berman and mother of the late Jill Leitch and the late H. Tod Berman, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018. She was in her home and surrounded by her family and friends. Shirley taught kindergarten for many years in North Miami Beach. She also served as President of the North Miami Beach Jewish War Veterans Post 682. Never one to meet a stranger, Shirley was a lifelong arts and education enthusiast and a great friend and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her many joys included designing jewelry, painting, swimming, dancing, and serving as a community fundraiser. Shirley was born in the Bronx, NY to Sophie and Joseph Israelsky. She is survived by her sister, Rose Gould, her daughter-in-law, Barbara Berman, wife of Tod, her four grandchildren, Kristin Leitch, Rory Leitch and his wife Jeanna, Candace Berman Sheitelman and her husband Michael, and Brett Berman. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren, Jake and Alec Sheitelman and Grant and Lucy Leitch. A private memorial will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Adopt a Classroom.
