Met Steve, Lee and the rest of the band at The Place in North Miami when we were all teenagers. What a great band, and so many fond memories. They always ended the night with Daddy's Home, by, I think Shep and the Limelights. Steve was an unforgettable guy. Always so calm, smiling and even tempered.

I played with Dr T and the Undertakers during the late 60s. we were all friends with Steve and Lee Tiger and played many gigs with them. Lee was playing a left hand guitar while Steve was belting out the vocals. I think the bandback then was called Peach. a guy named Earnie was the lead vocal at that time. They use to sing 16 Candles and bring the house down!

Met Stephen at one of the Festivals we always enjoyed going to with my then mother-in-law Francis Quinn. He was always kind and enjoyable to be around. I have a picture of Stephen holding my first born son Donnie about 1984 or 1985. I am blessed to have known Stephen and to listen to his music and see some of his wonderful art. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

I just recently learned of Stephen's passing. I worked with Stephen when I was at the former WBZL-TV Channel 39 from the 1980's to 2001. We produced and aired the Micosukkee Art & Music Festival PSA's for him for many years. Lee, Debbie and children, I was very blessed to have known such a remarkable, talented and good man.

Dear Lee,
I just heard about Steve's passing. What a terrible blow. I met you both a lifetime ago (late '70s) when I was in Miami writing an article for Crawdaddy magazine. I've interviewed a lot of "celebrated" people in my life but there was a beautiful poetry to Steve. He was a wonder. I can't imagine your pain. Please know anyone who met your brother, heard his music, saw his art, shares your loss.

I knew Steve and Lee from Palm Springs Junior High in Hialeah. They had cool girlfriends.... This summer my husband & I brought friends from England to Coral Castle then the Everglades to ride on an airboat, check out the gators, etc. Imagine my surprise to find ourselves @ Buffalo Tiger's place. Rode around, of course, & then saw a ton of pix of the Tigers both past & present. Even bought a Tiger/Tiger cd, which I sent to my little brother up in Memphis. Will always remember the Tiger boys and was saddened to hear of Steve's death.

Sad to hear of Stephen's passing. He was more friends with my brother and sister, but when he and his brother stayed with us, I somehow think it was just as much fun and later, just as fond a memory for my parents as their visits were for us, especially for our father.

You have my deepest sympathy in the loss of Stephen Tiger but do you know what really happens when a person dies, I have found great comfort in that the Bible explains it this way, " His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; and in that day his thoughts do perish." you can read that at Psalm 146:3,4 in your Bible.

Lee:
We just spoke on the phone, after hearing of Steves passing. I remember when we were all in the Miami beach house and Sun Country was playing at Heaven, I am sure that is where Steve is playing now. I remember the trip to play in Ohio and just being around Steve was always great. I used to love it at Heaven when he would jump into the water from the stage and disappear. My condolences and prayers go out to you and your entire family. God bless you guys and to Steve, thanks for being a friend. After thirty years of no contact, if you still remember people, believe me, they made an impression on you. Rest in peace Steve.

My wife and I were deeply saddened to learn of Stephen's passing. I first met the Tiger family when Lee Tiger came to see me at Pan Am in the late '70s. He was seeking transportation to the many trade and travel shows that took place each year promoting destinations. I liked him at once and agreed to help. I remember he said he also wanted to get some Pan Am timetables "So he could display them at the Miccosukee booth during the shows".Here he was not only working for the tribe but offering to help us as well.About a year ago we met Stephen at a restaurant here in Miami. We liked it and ran into him often there. At some point, I asked him if he knew Lee Tiger. He said "Sure he's my brother". We talked often with Stephen over the last year and learned about his children and his music and his plans for the new album. He was such an earnest, pleasant guy and just a lot of fun to be around. We grieve with the Tiger family and we both pray for Stephen. In this extremely difficult time there is no need to ask this family to "Be strong". Everyone knows that Tigers are the strongest creatures on the earth.

I first met Steve when he appeared on the "Skipper Chuck Show" in the '70's. "Tiger Tiger" was a television audience favorite and was very popular with live audiences. Steve invited me to the mixdown of "Eye of the Tiger" and I watched as Steve worked with excitement and purpose. And I have followed his career as a musician and artist since then. The Tiger family has lost a loved one and the creative community has lost a shining light. My condolences to Steve's family.

I'm at a loss of words currently...I have been out of touch with Stephen for some years now, but have always been trying to reconnect, unsuccesfully. I was sent his obituary by my mother, who still lives down in South Florida and was greatly shocked. Stephen and I spent many years together back in the late 80's and early 90's...I was his keyboard player and right-hand man during 5 festivals, countless shows, and the "Tamiami Station/Space Age Indian" album. I remember driving 60 miles to sit in his apartment dozens of times trying out new songs, practicing, writing, and arranging and loving every minute of it. His passion for his music and his art was amazing and I respected him so much for that. I learned a lot from him as well, and am so proud, happy and privileged to have been a little part of his life and career. My condolences go out to Lee, Debbie and the family.

I'm very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. As long time friends of the family, I often have fond memories of when I was a kid and aunt Debi brought me along to family gatherings. I also remember going to festivals and listening to y'all rock with aunt Judi or my Dad. I'm sorry that it has been 22 years since my last memory. I guess high school and college kept me busy in different circles. However, as he walks with the spirits of his ancesters, I hope he knows he is remembered fondly and well-loved and is at peace among those who journeyed before him.

I am so at a loss for words. Steve and Lee were a wonderful part of my youth. We "road tripped" to Key West for a gig, probably the first out of Hialeah trip. Steve would come to the house to get his hair braided(not the style of the 60's but always Steves style). My Mother chased him out of the house with sissors, she was going to "cut the hippies hair". Oh what memories! To the Tiger family my deepest sympathy. Lee, to you my love and prayers. Your loss is too great.

Lee and Tiger Family, I was never so saddened to hear of Stephen's passing. It was just two weeks ago, I spoke to him on the phone for the first time in over 30 years. The Songwriters Guild of America mourns the passing of Stephen Tiger, whose willingness to give of himself on behalf of American songwriters and creators everywhere will always be remembered.
I had the privilege of walking the halls of Congress and even visiting the White House with Stephen, and he was a passionate and effective advocate for fairness for all songwriters, but especially for the youngsters growing up on Reservations across America. He wanted to ensure that those young music creators got the chance to follow their dreams as he had, and he succeeded as a role model as well as a supporter.
One of Stephen's great admirers was the late master songwriter Henry Mancini. At one very intimate gathering of the country's greatest songwriters for a Congressional lobbying day about fifteen years ago, some of the brightest talents in the history of American music played for one another at a private dinner and briefing. Hit songwriters from every genre performed, including Stephen, but the evening closed in a way so special that it is indelibly printed on the memories of all who were present. Henry got up to the piano and sat down, and motioned for Stephen to join him. They had lobbied together before, and enjoyed one another's talents and senses of humor. Henry joked with Stephen and they had a good time discussing Henry's baldness and Stephen's long locks, and finally Henry just sat down and played one of his immortal tunes, "Moon River," with Stephen by his side. "This guy gives me strength" Henry said, before starting to play a version so poignant that nobody spoke for minutes afterward, until he and Stephen got up and walked out together. The evening was over, as no one could follow that performance.
I had the opportunity finally to ask Stephen about that moment just two weeks ago when he and his brother were honored at the Native American Music Awards for their great careers. When I asked him about it, he remembered that Henry had just been diagnosed with cancer, and that he had called Stephen to talk about pursuing alternative medical treatments. "I told him I was not a medicine man myself," Stephen said, "but I helped him find what he was looking for, and part of that was making him aware of his own inner strength."
I am proud to have known Stephen Tiger, and so happy I had that one last opportunity to tell him what a terrific voice for his people --the songwriters of America and the songwriters of Native America-- he was. There shall not be another like him, but he shall remain a shining example to all of us.
Thank you, Stephen, from all of us throughout the songwriter community. You shall always be remembered as a friend and a leader.
Safe journey.

As a kid in Hialeah I had the chance to swim in the canal behind Palm Springs Mile Theater and Jackson Byrons with Steve and Lee and another friend named Chop Chop. This little canal actually had manatees living in it during those days. As this little canal fed into the Miami River at Miami Springs, flowing down from the Great Lake Okeechobee and touching all of the Everglades before flowing out to sea, I appreciate and treasure the fact that my life was also touched by Steve and Lee, enjoying their music Then and Now.
My sincere condolences to The Tiger Family.

Stephen Tiger was such an impassioned human being that anyone who ever met him will always remember him and what a complete artist he was. I played drums for him and always marveled at the fact that his approach to creating songs was not limited to any rules and became art pieces very much like the art pieces he painted that were hanging in his house and rehearsal room. In the ‘60s, his early bands, like Sun Country, were among the best here in Florida and I was very impressed by their performances. We rode together to the Hard Rock the night he accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award given to him and his brother Lee earlier this month. He was in a very positive frame of mind and was well spoken accepting the honor. We all had great time that night. It was the last time I saw him. He had just finished the new Tiger Tiger CD and was very excited about having everyone hear it. He was a good friend and I miss him, but as long as I can listen to his music, he will never be all gone.
Peace,

There are never any words to make one feel better about a loss of a loved one, but especially before one's time. I first met Stephen and Lee (and Later Deborah) at Ma'Grundy's and followed Tiger Tiger thru Jon, Marc and Kirk and at all the festivals for many many years. I took many photographs and had many good, enjoyable, fun times. Stephen was a remarkable artist, musician and spokesperson. Although I am not in Miami at this time, I still stay in touch with all...and this will be a great loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Tiger family.

When I saw Stephen Tiger's picture near the obituary page, I thought, "Oh, no, it can't be!" But it was. Too young, too talented, too soon. I'm so sorry to hear this. I grew up in Miami and the Tiger family has always been part of the background in some way starting in the 50's when, as a kid, I discovered we had a real live Indian Chief living not so far away with a real cool name. When his sons started making rock and roll, that was cool too. God bless the Tiger family and may you find comfort in this time of sorrow.
