Howard Salzman


The brilliant, charismatic Howard Salzman passed peacefully on December 28th at the age of 91. He will be remembered by his many students at Florida International University where he taught Philosophy and Aging in Place; and of course his family and his friends from over the years. He is survived and remembered with love by his two daughters Linda Sherman and Carol Salzman, his significant other Lucille Gaffney, his nieces and nephews: Howard's sister Pearl's daughter: Faye Whitehill Gero and her daughter Jennifer Gero Voegtli; Pearl's son: Richard Whitehill and Richard's son William David Whitehill and daughter Nancey Whitehill Upshaw; Howard's brother Erwin's daughter: Donna Frances Salzman DeGeorge Ph.D and her son Adam. Special mention for his chair yoga therapist, Paty Renda and former chief nurse at Victoria Villa, Rodrigo Quiel, who went to extraordinary lengths to care for him. There will be a military honors ceremony at South Florida National Cemetery at 1pm January 18 (please be there at 12:45, park in lane 1) followed by a Celebration of Life at a nearby location.
