Daniel Mahoney
On Tuesday, June 11, 2013 a beloved brother, an uncle to many, a great dad to a few, a loving grandfather and overall a wonderful man, Daniel Hugh Mahoney, passed away in San Diego, Calif., due to heart complications. He was an amazing man; forever generous, thoughtful, and caring.
Dan was born to Joseph and Phillis Mahoney in Klamath Falls, Ore., and celebrated his 80th birthday in May this year. He was from a large Catholic family and had 13 siblings.
After high school, Dan joined the seminary, but found he had other aspirations. Extremely bright, he worked his way through school, attending University of California at Berkeley. He then enlisted in the Army and after three years returned home to attend San Francisco State University, where he received his master's degree. He became an outstanding, charismatic, and compassionate teacher for almost 35 years.
While teaching, he met his beautiful wife, Joan aka Tacey Robbins. She was a gifted singer who toured all over the world. Dan became a building contractor and together they had a successful construction business, specializing in building custom homes. Sadly, Joanie preceded him in death in 2008.
Dan was very honest, kind, charitable and hardworking. His greatest gift was his willingness to guide, teach, reach out and help others. He will always be remembered for his ear-to-ear heartwarming smile, playful sense of humor, loving nature and tender heart. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
Dan and Joan are survived by their daughter Deborah Murray, sons Sean and Dan Mahoney plus three grandsons Ryan, Kael and Brennen.
There will be a celebration of life for Dan and Joan in South Tahoe on July 30. If you are interested in attending, please email danandjoancelebrationoflife@gmail.com. On Aug. 3 in Klamath Falls, a mass will be held at noon in Sacred Heart Catholic Church and committal to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
