James Gammill Obituary

GAMMILL, James Clark, age 92, died on Saturday morning, Dec. 16, 2017, in Paris, France. He was born in Fairfield, Alabama on April 30, 1925, to Frank and Allene Clark Gammill. His family moved to Flat Creek in Bedford County Tennessee when he was eight years old. Jim served in WWII from 1943-1945 and combat in Europe from January to May 1945, VE Day, returning from France in July 1945. He received his BA Degree from the University of Illinois in 1947, and his medical degree from Cornell University of New York Hospital in 1952. He served his medical internship from 1952-53 at Walter Reid Hospital caring for the wounded Koran War soldiers. James was a graduate of the London Institute of Psychoanalysis with a specialty in children's psychotherapy from 1956-59. He served as medical officer and the hospital commander of the U.S. Air Force Hospital in France from 1959-60. He received an honorable discharge from Armed Services as a captain on Dec. 29, 1956. He was psychiatric resident at Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee from 1960-66. Jim served in the practice of and analysis of children and adults in France from 1966-2005, in private practice, clinics and other facilities for emotional children. He also did teaching and super-vision. He also did consultation for the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France and American schools. He retired to middle Tennessee in 2005 for several years. He restored a home in Old Salem where he enjoyed several years with many friends from Falls Mill and Beach Grove Methodist Church and Old Salem. He is survived by one sister, Joan Alexander of Tullahoma, Tennessee; one niece, Melanie Henson of Woodstock, Georgia; four nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Jim was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Henson of Woodstock, Ga. and Frances Sonnenberg of Portland, Oregon. A service was held in Paris, France on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017. A later service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Beech Grove Methodist Church on Francisco Road near Huntland.

Sir,
I did not know you personally, however I would very much like to "Thank You" for your dedicated and honorable Military Service to OUR country.
As a member of the "GREATEST GENERATION" and as a "WORLD WAR II VETERAN", you Sir are my HERO!
At a later date we will meet in that "SPECIAL PLACE" which GOD reserves for ALL of those who served their country in a Military Uniform.
May ALL of GOD'S blessings fall upon your dear family.
