Leska Maxine Hightower Hendricks
Heaven's Music
Lucile Hightower
To glorify is to reflect in praise
His love and compassion in all our ways
To mount higher and higher as on eagles' wings
We draw near to praise Him for wondrous things.
"Rejoice, rejoice," we sing out with hearts full of
love
As heaven's sweet music drifts from above.
Reminding that Jesus came one glorious night
To change all darkness to heavenly light.
He is truly among us, coming down to earth
To show love for man in His lowly birth.
As you accept and give Him first place in your
heart
In all that you do, He will be apart.
The Music of Heaven is a life lived so true
That all can see Jesus instead of you!
Leska Maxine Hightower Hendricks, "Sissie", 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 6 April 2021. She passed peacefully at her home in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family and love. Leska was born in Sherman, Texas on 14 November 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred McCuin and Billie "Lucile" McLane Hightower, her in-laws Thomas Clayburn and Mary Virginia Hendricks, and her oldest son, David Thomas Hendricks.
After graduating from Sherman High School in 1951, she continued her education in business at Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton, Texas. Later, she was honored to be on the Board of Trustees of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for over 15 years. Leska eloped to marry Harry Eugene Hendricks on 23 August 1954 the day of her college graduation. She refused to let her father pay for a wedding after he had funded her education. Harry and Leska moved often with the Air Force during their early years together and eventually settled in San Antonio, Texas, in 1967. Leska was a devoted member of Grace Point Church for 25 years.
Leska is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harry Eugene Hendricks, and children Steven Eugene Hendricks (wife Mary Allyn), Dennis McCuin Hendricks (wife Jeranna), and Leska Ann Hendricks Sieber (husband Werner). She boasted seven beautiful grandchildren, Jemma Chapel (née Lindsay Hendricks), Sydney Hendricks, Melinda Hendricks Adams (husband Shaun), David Cody Hendricks, Leska Norton Vasquez, Chanell Hathaway Nash (husband Sean), and Christopher Hathaway. She was proud of her seven great-grandchildren, Lily, Weston, Georgia, Mario, Leska, Anderson, and Harper. She is also survived by her two younger sisters, Shari Hightower Turner (husband Mark) and Lu Ann Hightower Yoast (husband Ronnie). Leska was blessed to have had Norma, a special Angel in her life, whom she loved dearly.
Leska loved and cared for her children while also working as a business partner with Harry in their construction business. Later, with K & L Engineering, she was among the first women trained as a Level II Examiner in Non-Destructive Eddy Current testing. She could be found testing Chiller and Heat Exchanger tubing wearing her red jumpsuit and black utility gloves. She and Harry traveled extensively with their business and were sometimes away from home for months at a time. They explored over 60 countries and visited every continent. Leska traveled around the globe twice and trekked Mt. Kilimanjaro at age 65. The family is unsure which destination was her favorite as she would give a different answer to any who asked. No doubt each was a favorite if she was with Harry.
Leska's love for family was paramount. She navigated them through good and challenging times, always showing love and support. She was elegant. She was graceful. She was loved. She will be missed, but we will always remember the joy she brought us.
A memorial will be held in San Antonio in May and a service will be held at West Hills Cemetery in Sherman, Texas at a later date.
