Christina Genon Eckroat was born on July 14-Bastille Day-1958, in Oklahoma City. She died on September 12, 2011, in Sherman, TX., from complications related to polycystic kidney disease.

Christy went to Bishop McGuinness HS. She worked for many years as an operating room technician at Baptist Hospital, as a respiratory therapist at Mercy Hospital, and later as a sleep study technician.

Though she spent her last years in declining health and nearly-constant pain, Christy was neither bitter nor angry: she choose instead to laugh and love and be happy, despite her circumstances. She was also possessed of an indomitable stubbornness, which allowed her to persevere in adversity. Christy loved her family, her friends, and her dogs. She was kind, thoughtful, and caring of others to the end.

Christy is survived by: Elizabeth Eckroat, mother, formerly of Oklahoma City, now of Sherman; Becky Goldsmith, sister, and Steve Goldsmith, brother-in-law, of Sherman; Steven Eckroat, brother, and Laura Eckroat, sister-in-law; Ashley Eckroat, niece, of Fort Worth; Chris Goldsmith, nephew, and Lorna Goldsmith, niece-in-law, and their children, Elanor and Jack, of Sherman; Jeff Goldsmith, nephew, and Celia Goldsmith, niece-in-law, of Baltimore; by numerous friends; and by Taz, her dog. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Eckroat.

A funeral mass will be held at St Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday, September 15, at 10 a.m., followed by a gathering of friends at the parish hall. A burial service will be held in the chapel at Resurrection Cemetery on Friday, September 16, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at Epiphany of the Lord Church. Arragements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX.
