Richard Farnsworth "Dick" Stripe Obituary
Richard 'Dick' Farnsworth Stripe, age 95, passed away December 26, 2018 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas. He was predeceased by beloved wife Lois Jean Stripe; father of Richard, Suzanne and Amy; father-in-law of Jeff and Nigel; grandfather of Frankie; and uncle of James, Patty and Rick.
Dick was born May 19, 1923 in Littlefield, TX and graduated from Littlefield High School in May 1941. He served in WWII by enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944 and was deployed in the Pacific as 2nd Lieutenant until his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Lois Jean Baxter on September 3, 1946. Dick attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Subsequently, he went to work for Black & Veatch, a consulting engineering firm based in Kansas City, MO. The firm sent him to Latin America as a consulting engineer in 1964 and he spent many years on projects throughout this region, with his family in tow. Dick loved to travel and nothing deterred his sense of adventure or curiosity about the world around him. He was profoundly observant of nature, fond of rural life, and full of all kinds of knowledge, both practical and philosophical. Dick was a devoted family man; his loss leaves a void that only happy memories can fill.
A memorial service will be held, details pending.
Thou'rt gone! The abyss of heaven hath swallowed up thy form; yet on my heart deeply hath sunk the lesson thou hast given and shall not soon depart.
