Sophie J. Allender Obituary
DENISON - Sophie J. Allender, 89, passed away Friday January 11, 2019 at her home in Denison.
Deacon Gary Vogel will say the rosary for Sophie at 7 P.M., Monday January 14th, 2019 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel in Denison.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday January 15, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen Mocio and Rev. Randall Fogle officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Denison.
Serving as pallbearers will be Peter Ang, Javier Nieto, John Hanel, Jeff Aday, Jon Wojciechowski, and Joe Bindel.
Sophie was born on Friday, May 3, 1929 in a small Swiss village named Helvetia in West Virginia, the daughter of John & Rosa (Antonich) Lipovec. She attended and graduated from Pickens High School in Pickens, West Virginia. On June 22, 1946 she married Allen Allender. Allen was a military career man and after he retired they settled in Denison.
As a young girl, Sophie was in the 4H club, which she enjoyed very much. She also was a member of the Swiss Dancing Club, which traveled around the area entertaining.
Sophie worked for Levi Strauss and Cigna during her career years. After retiring she enjoyed being a homemaker, yet she and Allen enjoyed traveling, being with friends and gardening. She was and active member of St. Patrick's Church and belonged to the Altar Society, Retirees and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.
She is survived by nephews Jim and John Wamsley of West Virginia; Cousins Rudy and Jean Lipovec of Ohio; good neighbors Armando and Sue Medrano and close friends Javier and Maggie Nieto, who took very good care of her.
She is preceded in death her parents, her husband, and her sister Amelia.
A special thanks to all of Sophie's doctors and to the Guardian Hospice team.
In lieu of flowers, it was Sophie's wish that donations be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church Restoration.
