Arthur Joseph LaFleur
PROVO Ð Arthur Joseph (Art) LaFleur, 97, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living Facility, Provo, UT, of causes incident to age.
He came into the world October 5, 1909 at Frenchtown, MT, the eldest of seven children born to Adelard Isaias and Alphonsine Hermine Tuott LaFleur.
On April 3, 1928 he married Effie Bybee in Anaconda. The marriage was later solemnized in the Cardston Alberta Temple. A son, Philip, was born of this union. They later divorced.
During the depression he worked at a number of jobs in Montana. He was a mechanic in the stamp mill of the Hidden Mine and at the Georgetown Placer Mine. He worked for the WPA and FERA building a new Mill Creek Highway to the Big Hole Basin; he worked for Mount Haggin Livestock Company in Big Hole and at the home ranch on Willow Creek.
Shortly after World War II began he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After serving on a number of bases in the United States, he was shipped to the Southwest Pacific where he stayed until the end of the war. Immediately after being discharged, he traveled to Detroit, MI where he married the great love of his life, Emily Waite Tudhope on December 31, 1945. That marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles, CA Temple. They moved with Emily's son, Don, to Ogden.
Arthur had completed his GED and, realizing the importance of education, he enrolled at Weber State College, from which he received an Associate Degree in Industrial Engineering. He ended his active working career at Headquarters, Ballistic Systems Division, Norton Air Force Base, CA as Project Officer/Propulsion Engineer working with the development of the third stage of the Minuteman Missile. After retiring he and Emily spent two years doing genealogical research in Montana, Indiana, Michigan and Canada. When he was 19 he became a member of the LDS Church. During his life he served in a number of ward and stake callings. Serving as a Bishop of the Anaconda Ward and as an Ordinance Worker in the Los Angeles Temple gave him great satisfaction.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily, and all but one of his siblings. He is survived by his son, Philip (Helen); his step-son, Donald (Kitty) Tudhope; 8 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; his brother, Alfred LaFleur and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dear Philip and Helen,
We loved your dad and Emily, and it was a pleasure to work with them in the Ventura Second Ward. Art was always positive, and took such loving care of Emily, you could tell she was his sweetheart. His positive attitude, and his wisdom, and his strong testimony endeared him to all who knew him. It was a delight to hear from him at Christmas. We have been missing him, since he moved to Utah, and now we will miss him even more. And I loved his cowboy boots!
Much love and sympathy
