David Buse Obituary

June 14, 1938-September 9, 2017 David Robert Buse, 79, died at his Arlington, WA home on September 9, 2017, coincidentally the 134th birthday of his paternal grandmother, Ida Buse. The cause was cancer. Born in Everett, WA on June 14, 1938, to Delmer and Mary Buse, Dave grew upon Smith Island, attending Washington and Whittier Elementary and North Junior High schools and was a 1956 graduate of Everett High School. He was a member of Tau Phi Delta fraternity at the University of Washington where he earned his B.S. degree from the College of Forestry in 1960. Dave married Virginia (Susie) Price of Seattle on December 27, 1959. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009, and Susie preceded him in death in 2011. After several years as a contractor in Arlington, Dave joined Buse Timber and Sales of Everett, the saw mill on Smith Island begun in 1946 by his father and uncle, Norman Buse. Dave retired as president of Buse Timber and Sales of Everett, after selling the mill in 2004. He married Martha Graham of Little Rock, AR, on November 8, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Martha Buse; daughter, Shannon Buse of Stanwood, WA; sons, Kevin Buse (Michelle) of Stanwood, Bill (Kami) and Mike Broderick (Margie); and grandchildren, Danica and Savanna Buse; Austin and Corbin Wilhonen; Amanda, Luke and Lee Hayden; and Sean Broderick; sisters, Lynette Evans of San Francisco, Janet Hallauer of Mukilteo, WA and Barbara Berry of Stanwood. In the early 1960s, Dave and Susie built a home near Trafton on acreage that he turned into a woodland park that became the site of numerous gatherings of family and friends. A devout Christian, Dave was a member of Free Methodist Church in Arlington, where he drew spiritual sustenance from members of a Bible study group that met weekly over the past 30 years, and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Everett. An outdoorsman, gun collector, avid reader and photographer, Dave was a gentle giant. A devoted son, husband and father, he was an accomplished hunter, pilot and boatman whose children fondly recall him flying the family above the Arctic Circle in his favorite Cessna 180, where the family camped under the wing of the plane; of packing the family's horses into the High Country above Glacier Peak; of leisurely cruises along the lnland Passage to Alaska on his 38-foot cabin cruiser, Dawn Treader, which he last piloted into the San Juan Islands for a family outing on July 15. His annual bird-hunting expeditions into Montana with Kevin and his friend, Dave Schuurman are legendary, and his last big kill was a marauding black bear that he shot in his apple orchard two years to the day before his own death. Private graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Arlington Cemetery, 20310 67th Ave NE, Arlington, WA with funeral services to follow at 4:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2521 Lombard Ave, Everett, WA.

To Shannon, Martha, Kevin and families, we send our deepest Sympathy. Dave lived a long and interesting life.
Suzie was my first cousin, and though we haven't has the chance to gather with the family lately, we treasure our long history with the Price/Glass/Buse clan. May all the good memories sustain you in this time of sadness. Warmest regards, Merrillann and Dave Hutchinson and family.

Our condolences to his entire family. I've know Dave for nearly 50 years. Worked for him for over 22 years and considered him a friend. While most who knew Dave will probably agree that he was his own person he was true to his beliefs and as honest a person as there ever was. Many's the time I would disagree with him, tell him what I thought of his idea, and then watch him grin and we'd do it his way. He will be missed.

I enjoyed the pleasure of getting to know Dave and Martha in our Bible Study Group on Monday evenings, and guests at the home of Wannie and Ben Burgoyne. Dave always spoke about how much he loved his family and his faith never waivered. He was loved and will truly be missed. My condolences to all of his family. GOD Bless, Vicki Loomer

We never met Dave, but he married Martha Graham who is a dear friend of ours and he was special to her. He sounds like someone whose stories I would have enjoyed. I know he will be missed.

We dearly loved Dave and Susie and later Dave and Martha. We counted them among our dearest and best friends for many years. We loved the seafood dinners their family made for our Bible Study Group and most recently, hosting a lovely pot luck picnic in their lovely pavillion. In our most dire hours, we had their blessing and protection as they moved us back to our family home at Lake Stevens. So happy we had Dave and Martha over for dinner on our lakeside deck and enjoyed watching a beautiful sunset. We will also treasure the memory of our last visit to their home. We were able to pray with him about the respect we felt towards his Christian faith, being such a great family man, excellent businessman and hard worker. We will always enjoy the pictures he took of our most fun times. Love always, Ben and Wannie Burgoyne...

We loved living in Trafton with Dave and Sue Busie and family, as our neighbors! One day I was cleaning for Sue, and had to put the laundry away upstairs. I opened the door to their master suite, and was awed by the size of their HUGE bed. So high you needed stairs to get up on it! My curiosity was piqued enough to explore a bit more. Opening another door I found steps down into a true "man-cave", complete with pool table and dark paneled walls. Along the hallway between rooms, on the bookshelves, were every Louis L'Amour book ever written! Dave loved Louie L'Amour!! I will never forget Dave's kindness to me, inviting me to fly on their airplane, ride the horses, hang out as long as I wanted at their big beautiful home in a literal "Garden of Eden". Dave, you and Sue will be missed! May your family find comfort in knowing that you loved well, and were well loved! Love from Lisa (Pitstick) Reinsma

Sad to learn of Dave's passing. I have fond memories of Dave
while working in the office at Buse Timber. Such a nice man.
Never did I hear him raise his voice or speak badly of anyone.

Graydon and I have fond memories of spending time with
he and Susie. . We enjoyed flying to Roche Harbor for
lunch a few times. On one occasion they flew into Roche
while we were there on our sailboat. Shannon sailed home with us as our niece from California was with us, same age as
Shannon.

Our condolences to Shannon, Kevin and all family members.
They were blessed to have such a nice Christian father and
family member..
