Obituary

Hilda (Bueler) Hawley

Hilda Agnes (Bueler) Hawley passed away at home in Acme, WA on February 18, 2011. Born October 30, 1922 in Marshland, Snohomish, Hilda was the youngest child of Joseph and Mary Bueler both of Canton Schwyz, Switzerland. She grew up on the family dairy farm and attended school in Snohomish and Everett. During World War II she proudly contributed to the war effort as a Rosie the Riveter at Boeing in Seattle, WA and Everett. Her love of the mountains and Swiss heritage inspired her to become one of the first women members of the Everett Mountaineers, climbing most major peaks in Washington and Oregon, leading climbs on Mt.Baker and Mt Rainier. Hilda married Bruce Hawley, a Washington State Park ranger in 1955, and together with their children Georganna and Joseph lived in five parks throughout western Washington. After retirement they lived in Stanwood, WA for 30 years, and were active members in the Washington Old Time and Country Music Association, sharing their joy of music in the local community.
Hilda was preceded in death by Bruce, her husband of 45 years; brothers, Frank Bueler and Joseph Bueler; sisters, Ann Bucher and Louise Fischer; and grandson, Jason Borry.
She is survived by sisters, Mary Wilson, of Snohomish, WA and Martha DeFisser of Everett; daughter, Georganna Hawley, of Fillmore, CA; son, Joseph, of Acme; granddaughters, Amanda, Booie, JoJo and Harmony, all of Whatcom County, WA, Jennifer Anderson, of Sylmar, CA; and four great-grandchildren.
Hilda will be fondly remembered for her love of Christ, for sharing her Swiss heritage in music and yodeling, her unflagging energy, hiking well into her 88th year, and maintaining a positive attitude throughout her long life.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Cedarhome Baptist Church, 29000 68th NW, Stanwood.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for a donations in Hilda's name to Whatcom County Hospice.
