Margaret Helland Smith "Maggie"

Margaret "Maggie" Helland Smith, born August 30, 1919 in Moscow, ID, passed away on May 26, 2011 in Snohomish, WA at the age of 91.
She attended Langley High School and graduated with the top of her class. Margaret was a longtime member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens. She served there as church secretary for many years and also volunteered frequently with the Luther League Youth Group. She was also a Bluebird and Campfire Girl Leader. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, making clothing, sharing her delicious baked goods, gardening in her extensive flower and vegetable garden - much of which she shared, going to breakfast with her friends, and car trips. Margaret enjoyed camping and fishing in Eastern Washington and spending the winters in Arizona.
Margaret is survived by her son, Gary Smith (Dalrene) of Lake Stevens; daughter, Gayle Streicher (Neil) of Poulsbo; sister, Thelma Hoiland of Snohomish; grandchildren, Scott, David, and Cindy; great-grandchildren, Steven, Kelcie, Brandon, Jared, and Tyler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Smith in 2006; 10 of her siblings; and her parents, Carl and Gurina Helland.
A memorial service celebrating Margaret's life will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 - 117th Ave. NE, Lake Stevens, WA 98258.
Donations in her name may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the girls of Dogwood Cottage at Emeritus of Snohomish for their loving and exceptional care these last few years.

I met Margaret and Clifford in Montana in 1984, and they took me to their home and to Whidbey Island to visit Margaret's relatives. It was a great experience for a distant relative from Norway, and I appreciated highly their hospitality and kindness. Lars Asbjørn Nag
