Nancy Murphey

Nancy Ann (Nacke) Murphey of Monroe, WA, passed away on January 12, 2011 at the age of 81.
Nancy was born November 12, 1929 in Albany, New York, the daughter of Edgar Arnold Nacke and Dorothy Florence Gahran.
She graduated from Skidmore College in 1951 with a degree in Art. While working at Look Magazine in New York City, she met David Duncan Murphey III. Their first date was a New Year's Eve Party in 1953. They were married the following April. She always said when you meet the right one, you'll know. She must have known, for they celebrated 54 years together at the time of David's passing in 2008.
David and Nancy have three children, David D. Murphey IV (Ruth) of Kent, WA, Sally Mokate (Michael) of Snohomish, WA and Susan Murphey (Thomas Fasnacht) of Lake Forest Park, WA; along with nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Nancy loved the arts and humanities. She enjoyed sewing and was a gifted artist with beautiful and innovative knit creations. She and David moved from New York to Mountlake Terrace, WA in 1966, where they raised their three children.
Nancy was well respected professionally at the University of Washington Medical School, where she worked as program director for the OB/Gyn residency program. She retired in 1993, shortly after she and David moved to their dream home, a log cabin on six acres along the Stillaguamish River in Silvana, WA. They lived there until 2007, when they moved to Merrill Gardens of Monroe, where they were lovingly cared for by the most incredible people.
Nancy is survived by her three children, eight of her grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and her brother, David Nacke and family, of Battle Ground, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David; and her grandson, Elliot Denzel Fasnacht.
At Nancy's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made, in memory of Nancy Murphey, to KCTS-9, 401 Mercer Street, Seattle, WA 98109.
