To the Whisman Family I'll add but a small footnote to a great person. By great I mean that Bob shaped and influenced so many people in daily interactions that you just didn't realize it at the time. Bob showed interest in a young neighborhood kid and taught him some simple values of life through golf that have stayed with me ever since. Practice, perseverance, and doing the right thing when you're the only person who would know the difference. My dad was classmates with Bob at EHS and we both will miss mentor and friend respectively.

I worked in the Muni Snack Bar almost 50 years ago. Our days began with Bob starting his day at our counter. He was a gentleman and gave great advice when needed. I recall laughing a lot, through the day. His Mom Ruby, raised a nice man.

Two more "memories of Bob" to supplement my previous message:
About 65 years ago, when I asked why his golf swing was so different from Artie's, he told me he practised it in his Mom's dining room a often (over on Riverside above the mill) and in order to miss her chandelier it got that way.
When I was not around to take him up the river in my boat, Bob and Greg would fish from my yard. About 18 years ago in mid-morning of a foggy day, I got a call from Bob asking if I knew my "house is gone" (I did NOT). They had walked near it in the dark and fog, noticing the smell of smoke; about 3 hours later, when they looked above the dike, they saw my 3 story home- and everything I owned- GONE!!! :-( :-(

My deepest sympathy to you Jody, Brian and Greg on the loss of your father. He had a huge influence on my life from the time I began playing golf to this very day, when I remember some of the wonderful life lessons he taught me. Bob was not only a great player, he always inspired you to be better, not just in golf but in life.
Bob was one of the greatest thinkers and strategists I have ever played golf with.
I fondly remember the golf games and BS sessions in the Pro Shop with Bob, Bob Lee, Jeff Fowlds, Bob Burton, Doug Lauer, Jim "The Red Snapper Smith "(Rest in Peace Jim), and so many others.
Although I do not live in Everett any
longer, I will always consider Muny a home away from home and Bob made it that way.
Thank you Bob. God Bless you

I've only been part of the "WHIZZ" group for the last 7 or 8 years, but I'm thankful for the opportunity to play with, compete with (it took a special player to get in our nickle skins game), and get to know a very special human-being. You had a great sense of humor and a sharp needle, but you had no problem when the joke or needle was directed your way. You had a dignity that wasn't haughty and a sense of fair-play that is really quite rare. You were a fine player, a fine person, and a fine friend. I consider it a privilege and an honor to call you my friend. Now that you've played thru, I hope the birdies are coming in bunches and the fish are jumping into the boat. Good-bye my friend, it was truly a pleasure. (Save a few nickles and a spot in the group.)

I have nothing but fond memories of Bob. He was a good friend of my dad, Andy, who passed away nearly ten years ago. I remember my dad taking me out to Long Shots when I was just a kid, and occasionally I would get to ride along in a cart when he played with the Whis group out at Legion. I vividly remember being excited about finding a quarter on the green one morning...and quickly being chastised by everyone for picking it up!
Since my dad's passing, one of the highlights of my year has always been to visit home in the summer or over Christmas and play with the Whis group at Walter Hall or hit balls with Bob and others out at the Super Range. As with so many others, I became a better golfer thanks to his help and friendship. I will say that I am glad I was 50 years his junior, too, because that meant I could actually beat him occasionally!
I loved being part of the group, having fries after the round, watching Bob count up the skins, bantering about protection, hearing fishing stories...
He had an uncanny memory and would frequently recount shots (or entire rounds for that matter) from 50 years ago. Sometimes I can't even remember what happened on the last hole.
I was sad to hear of your passing and I will miss you, Bob, but I am grateful for your friendship and am very proud to have known such a great man that influenced so many people.
I regret that I can't be in town for your funeral, but be assured of my prayers for you and your family from Pittsburgh.

I will miss Bob.
I will miss the one-liners like.
"Is that good? It's not bad".
I will miss the sparkle in his eyes and the jump in his step when he had a birdie opportunity.
I will mostly miss waiting for him to hit a shot while he just talks and tells stories. Anybody else and I walk off the course.
Thank you Bob.

Bob was a very special friend and mentor. I will always remember the rainy day coffee mornings at the golf course and the many, many fish stories told on the golf course. Bob will be missed greatly.

I remember going to visit my mom at Legion while she was at work. Bob would be sitting at the table on the side of the restaurant. I can't count how many times while telling a story or giving directions Bob would use everything on the table as teaching tools. This salt shaker is the light at 41st and the sugar holder is a phone booth on Rucker... Always cracked me up. Bob was one of my favorite people in this world. I loved going to Long Shots and getting a lesson I even worked at Legion for bring your child to work day. Of course I had to be able to count change back before I could go behind the counter...LOL Rest in peace Bob, I will remember you fondly.

Along with another great golfer, Art Abrahamson Jr., Bob was one of my terrific golf mentors starting at age 11 in 1950; but,my most vivid "Bob memory" was 20 years
ago today. I had taken Bob steelhead fishing all season but we interrupted fishing while I took him to the NCAA tournament in Seattle. We raced home while there was about 20 minutes of light left and on literally his last cast of the season, when we could barely see, Bob got one more fish :-)

I was fortunate enough to have had Bob as a boss, a mentor, and a good friend. The long hours Bob and I worked in the summers at the old Legion Clubhouse seemed to fly by and will always be among my best memories.
Bob was not only a very talented golfer but also excelled in many other areas. He was always a glass half full type of person, detail oriented, with a positive attitude, and a great sense of humor.
My condolences to Jody, Brian, and Greg. Your Dad will be missed but never forgotten.
Rest in Peace Bob

Thank you for everything Bob. You were a good friend and I will always remember playing golf with you at Legion on Saturday and Monday afternoons to watch you try and set a new course record that you had already set and held several times previously. Now you can get back with Richard Pratt, another legend in my mind.

Bob Whisman, aka "The Wiz", was one of the greatest friends anyone could ever have.
Words can not express the love and admiration I have for the man.
Being a part of the Wiz group is something that just could not be put into words; it was a feeling more than a action. I believe all Bob really wanted for us was that we all tried to be the best we could be in everything.

Bob was a good friend from high-school days and golfing. Then we worked together at Scott Paper before he became a full-time gol pro. I just learned that he has departed and I'm very saddened by the news - all the best to his survivors. I was a year behind hin at Everett Hi but he helped me learn the golf game regardless, he and Artie A. who also was very close in those days. I can still remember our junior days at Everett G & c Club and a whole gang of we juniors riding with Bob, pooling our money and eating 6 hambugers for a $1 at Willies on 52nd. and Rucker/Evergreen Way - lots of fond memories, Take care all - he was a great person.

Our condolences to Jody, Brian and Greg on the loss of your father. Our thoughts are with all of you in this difficult time. Bob will always be held in great light in the golf community. He was a champion of the highest caliber and a wonderful mentor to myself and many other young golfers. One of his greatest attributes was humility. He was clearly the best golfer in the room but always would listen to your golf story and comment approvingly. I will fondly remember my many rounds of golf with Bob and his encouragement and most of all his sense of humor. He will be missed.
