Rock Hill, SC - Mr. Cecil Ernest "Ernie" Nivens, 70, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1232 Curtis Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with Reverends Emily Sutton and Matt Kiuken officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Nivens was a native of Rock Hill and the son of the late Cecil James Nivens and Vivian Mae Moon Nivens Johnson. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, where he was manager of the football team. He received his bachelor's degree from Francis Marion and his Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, Emory University. He also received a Masters of Science in Financial Services. Mr. Nivens was a United Methodist minister for 20 years in South Carolina and a Financial Advisor for 27 years with offices in Gastonia, NC and Rock Hill. He served on two international church missions to the Fiji Islands and to Seoul, Korea and was a church consultant to many churches around the United States. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Gideon's International and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gaston. He was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International. Mr. Nivens was the widower of Rosemarie Whitener Nivens (11/19/2016) to whom he was married a few months short of 50 years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Nivens and Sandy Nivens.

Mr. Nivens is survived by his loving daughters, Cathy Hammett (Kevin); Noelle Beam (Bo) and Emily Wilson (Jonathan); his grandchildren, whom he adored, Eric, Matthew and Kristin Hammett, Justin and Ryan Beam and Browning and Asher Wilson. Mr. Nivens was an avid sports fan who loved following the Atlanta Braves, Carolina Panthers and the SC Gamecocks. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and tried to always attend any event in which they were involved. To Our Daddy-"We'll see you again-We promise!"

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Nivens' name to Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gaston, 310 S. Boyd Street, Gastonia, NC 28052.
