Andrew Monroe, 19, of Sarasota died March 13, 2011.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Riverview High School Rambowl in Sarasota.
Preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Gallias. Survivors include his parents, Samuel and Stacey Monroe; brothers, Eric Giannaris, Cpt. U.S. Army (Kristi), Aaron Ginnaris, Florida Medical Reserve; paternal grandmother, Beverly Pitts; paternal grandfather, Archie Monroe (Shirley); maternal grandmother, Mary Gallias; maternal great-grandmother, Liberty Papoulas; aunts, Liberty Crossetti (Michael), Alice Pitts, Bonnie Anz-Monroe; girlfriend, Caiti Ward; one niece; eight cousins.
Andrew was a 2010 graduate of Riverview High School. He was currently attending Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Meyers. Soccer was his life he played for Sarasota United Soccer League for 10 years, was a member of Suncoast Spartans U19 Boys, a goal trainer, a referee for club and high school soccer, and was a member of Manasota Soccer Referee Association.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Andrew Monroe and Sean Leonard "The Boys in Red" Memorial Scholarship Fund, at FC Sarasota, PO Box 17936, Sarasota, FL 34276.

Our daughter, Lauren, knew Andrew thru friends and soccer. We, too, have felt the loss of a child when we lost Lauren recently to cancer. Know that many people – friends, family, people you don’t know grieve with you. The times we met Andrew, he was courteous, charismatic, energetic and full of passion as many have described him. May you find peace in cherishing the happy times with Andrew.

Andrew was a special person that I found to be "full of life"! His personality shined through his eyes. You could feel his excitement and passion through his smile. I had the opportunity to capture it through my camera during many soccer games. The action shots were fun to take and even more fun to share with him to hear his take on what he was doing/feeling at the time! I will miss who he was to become...

Dear Stacey, Sam, Eric and Aaron...I know there is nothing that will ever take away the pain you are all experiencing, but we want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. I wish I was closer and could just wrap my arms around you and hold you. I have always found some comfort in the following Native American Prayer, and I hope that maybe it will give you just a bit of comfort knowing that Andrew will always be with you and everyone who ever met him.

Sam, Stacey, Eric and Aaron... It is SO hard to understand why this happened.. Andrew was a special person who touched so many lives . It was so touching to see how many people attended the memorial to remember Andrew. You have raised a special son who always knew that all of you loved him dearly. Andrew Monroe might not physically be on this earth anymore, but his spirit and loving personality will live on forever. Everyone who has ever met him, whether it was passing him in the hallways at school or competing against him on the soccer field, all got to know that he was such a great person.
Andrew helped me with soccer over the summer a few years at camp, and he refereed a lot of my games, and everytime I saw him and talked to him, he had that consistent easy going and genuine personality. One time, at camp, I was going against this older boy player who was twice my size, and I muttered to him, "I might as well give up now." Andrew turned to me and said, "He might be older and taller, but you GOT this. Show him how it's done." At that moment, that was definitely what I needed to hear. I defended the player, and ending up getting the ball. I turned back to look at Andrew, smiling with his thumbs up.
He was such a giving and loving person, and seeing the community at his memorial warmed my heart, and I know Andrew will be watching over all of us.
Best wishes to the Monroe family, I just wanted to make sure you know that all the soccer families, refs, teens, and adults of Sarasota are thinking about you, and are all supporting you through this time. You're all so strong, and we admire you.
Andrew, rest in peace, we all love you and know that you won't go easy on all the other angels in your soccer game up there

Stacey I am so sorry for your loss. Andrew was a beautiful boy, inside & out. I can remember him as a littlle
boy playing soccer withNicholas. He was a spitfire & so talented. I know how proud you were of h. Hang onto those memories. Those precious moments will stay with you forever. I can't even wrap my mind around the loss yet....this has been such a tragedy that has rocked our community and i know for one has forever changed me. Andrew I am just so sorry, and u had so much promise to do bigger and greater things, but i am comforted in knowing u are now watching over us. Stacey and Sam I am praying for u and the boys always.

I didn't know Andrew, but I did graduate from Riverview with him and my Mom had him as a student when we were sophomores. Looking through the pictures, I will always remember his smile! Stacey & Sam, when I first heard of the accident it was such a tragedy. When I read Andrew Monroe it hit me that he was your son. I am so very sorry to hear about Andrew. I only met him a few times years ago, I went to high school with his older brothers Eric and Aaron. His mother is a wonderful woman who looked after all of us in JROTC. My condolences go out to this young man's family. Peace be with you and know we are all here for you.
