Anthony (Tony) Lloyd Van Buskirk, of Venice, Florida, passed away unexpectedly in his home on February 13, 2021, at 89 years old. He was born in Cohoes, New York to Lloyd and Hazel Van Buskirk.
Tony grew up in Cohoes, NY, attended Cohoes High School, and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute in Troy, NY with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He served as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. After graduation from college Tony worked as a commercial contractor for many years in the Tri-City area of upstate New York. He constructed a number of buildings and improvements for the New York Telephone Co. and NYRA at the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, NY. While living in New York he loved snow skiing with his children and family and boating and fishing on Lake George, NY.
Tony moved to Southwest Florida in 1980 with his late wife Janet Van Buskirk. Upon moving to the area, Tony obtained his license as a Professional Engineer and practiced civil engineering at his own engineering and surveying firm in North Port, FL. He continued his enthusiasm for boating and fishing while living in Port Charlotte and Nokomis FL. In retirement he learned to golf and that became his favorite pastime. He and his close companion Jinx Walcott enjoyed golf and social activities at Mission Valley Country Club.
He is survived by his brother Paul Van Buskirk (Nancy) of Estero, FL; his loving companion Jinx Walcott of Venice, FL; son Peter Van Buskirk (Ellen) of North Port, FL; daughter Martha Simone (Floyd) of Rexford, NY; and son Mark Van Buskirk of Schenectady, NY, and their mother Marilyn Van Buskirk of Niskayuna, NY; stepsons Craig Hildreth of Estero, FL and Brian Hildreth of Chandler, AZ; granddaughter Mia Otey (Kennon); grandsons Angelo Simone (Marcy) , Nathaniel Van Buskirk (Allison), Nicholas Van Buskirk (Samantha); and great grandson Leonardo Otey who shares his great grandfather's birthday. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by a granddaughter Desirae Van Buskirk and his wife Janet Van Buskirk.
Private Memorial Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation in Tony's honor to the Wildwood Foundation, 2995C Curry Road Ext, Schenectady, NY 12303.
