John Siegel, 73, of Sarasota, formerly of East St. Louis, Ill., died May 4, 2007.
Memorial services will be later at Church of the Redeemer. Packer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include daughters Tracy A. Hale of Tequesta and Kimberly A. of St. Pauls, N.C.; a son, John C. of Seattle; a brother, Bill J. of Belleville, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.
John was born in Little Rock and grew up in East St. Louis, Ill. He graduated in 1956 from the University of Miami, where he played football for the Hurricanes and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry as a second lieutenant.
He was employed by General Development Corp. on the east coast of Florida until 1964, when he and his family came to Sarasota to begin his career as vice president of Arvida Corp. where he was responsible for managing properties on Bird Key and Longboat Key. He was actively involved in the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce, Asolo Theater Association, Florida West Coast Symphony, YMCA, Bird Key Yacht Club and Longboat Key Club for years. He also chaired the United Appeal in 1972 -- just to mention a few.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Redeemer or TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
