Thompson, Michel Folsom
May 31, 1939 - Nov 11, 2020
Michel Folsom Thompson, 81, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
Born in Fairview Park, Ohio, to Kenneth and Marjorie (Folsom) Thompson, Mike attended Lakewood High School and received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Dyke College. He served with the Army, stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was honorably discharged in 1966. After graduating from Dyke College, Mike worked for Lybrand and Ross Brothers & Montgomery as a Public accountant until he took the job as CFO at Lee Wilson Engineering Company in Rocky River, Ohio. He was also the CFO & VP of Lee Wilson Engineering of Canada.
Mike had a sometimes-surprising passion for adventure. Of those who met him later in life, no one would have guessed that one of his early exploits was as an amateur bareback bronco riding competitor. Later, he turned his love for snow skiing into a family activity and a second home at their cottage at Peak-n-Peek Ski Resort. Finally, Mike steered that competitive spirit into golf, and in 2000 he and his wife Nancy became snowbirds, later settling into their new full-time home at Stoneybrook Golf & Country Club in Sarasota. Mike was a member of the men's golf league for many years and enjoyed playing the game no matter what his score was, always relishing his memory of a hole in one on an Ohio course. He was always a true and faithful Cleveland Browns fan (no matter what their scores were!). Mike was such a devoted Ohio State Buckeye fan that he earned the nickname "Bucko" from his golf buddies.
Mike married the love of his life Nancy Lynn (Luce) on December 20, 1985. This December would have been their 35th wedding anniversary, a journey that started in Rocky River and Avon, Ohio, and took them to their dream home in Sarasota. He fully enjoyed that part of their shared life experience which included time with his beloved Australian Shepard, Brook.
Mike was a devoted father, always proud of his children Kelly Thompson (Anthony DeLuca), Guilford, Connecticut, Michel D. Thompson (Jennifer), Breckenridge, Colorado and Andrew C. Thompson (Amanda), Rocky River, Ohio. Also, he absolutely adored all his grandchildren: Lauren, Daisy, Milo and Lily and his step grandchildren, Reed, George, Beau, Wil, Peachy and Huck.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother Edward C. Thompson in 2012.
A Celebration of Life for Michel will be held in April of 2021, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to; First Tee, 8586 Potter Park Drive, Suite 115, Sarasota, Florida, 34238 or online: www.firstteeSarasotaManatee.org
