Robert B. Parker, Sr., of Sarasota passed away at his home on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the age of 104. He was born February 10, 1914 in Yorktown, Virginia to Robert Lee Parker and Hattie Esther Shields. He came to Sarasota from Raleigh, N.C. in 1925 at 11 years of age with his mother and stepfather, Hugh French.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a disabled veteran. He was a master plumber by trade and retired from Standard Plumbing at the age of 93. He was a lifelong member of the NRA, The National Wild Turkey Federation, The National Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1519 and the Deborah Chuck Legg Memorial. He loved to fish and turkey hunt and went turkey hunting for the last time at 102. He was truly remarkable.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Adrianna "Dee" Parker.
He is survived by his son, Robert B. Parker Jr. (Bobbie), his daughters, Brenda Parker-West (Larry Brown), Ginny Matthews and Nell Collins. Also survived by eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandson.
Vitiation will be held on Saturday July 14, 2018 from 10 am to 11am at the Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park. Celebration of life will follow at 11am with entombment to follow. Please join us for a gathering of family and friends at Sun n Fun RV Resort, 7125 Fruitville Rd. for Bar B Que and fellowship immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Humane Society of Sarasota County, 2331 15th St., Sarasota, FL 34237 or take your family out to dinner.
