Sandra Long, 75, passed away on December 1, 2018. She was born Sandra Lee Wheeler in Dunbarton, New Hampshire in 1943. She graduated from Concord High School in 1961.She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother (G.G.) and friend. She was a proud resident of Sarasota, FL for over twenty-five years. Sandra and her husband of twenty-two years, Larry Long, traveled extensively, visiting over forty countries and sailing on over twenty cruises. Sandra was involved with many charities, including the , and was a patron of The Sarasota Orchestra. She was a member of the Ritz Carlton Beach Club and Laurel Oak Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing with her husband. Sandra, a gourmet cook and expert designer, was known for hosting an annual Boat Parade party, where friends and neighbors would watch Sarasota's famous celebration of the Christmas season from Sandra and Larry's penthouse apartment overlooking Sarasota Bay.
Prior to moving to Sarasota, Sandra lived in Andover, Massachusetts for over twenty years. She became President and Owner of Marketing Communications, Inc in 1975, and eventually sold the firm in 1995. She was a pioneer in her field and a mentor for women. During her career, she received Achievement Awards from the Society for Technical Communication in 1980, 1982 and 1984. She received numerous Creative Honors awards, photographic awards, was a member of the Art Directors Club, and was selected for a list of Who's Who of American Women. She was a member of the Northeast Advertising Club and Advertising Club of Greater Boston. She was co-owner of the boutique travel agency Classique, and a member of the Andona Society, a charity supporting scholarships for low income families. She was also a major fundraiser for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune's annual Christmas Drive, partnering with Backstreet Restaurant to raise tens of thousands of dollars for gifts for children in need.
Sandra is survived by her husband Larry Long, her best friend and the love of her life, her daughter Renee Novakoff and son-in-law James Novakoff, and the grandchildren who touched her heart with love, Valerie and Andrew Novakoff along with eight step grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She is also survived by stepchildren Brett Long (Amanda), Christa Martin (Chad), and Jenny Adams (Dan).
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7 from 1 to 3 at Laurel Oak Country Club. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the , Hospice of Sarasota or the .
