Sue Garland, 64, lost her battle with cancer on October 4, 2018. Sue was born November 4, 1953 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and moved to Sarasota, FL in 1963 where she spent the rest of her life living her mantra of Live, Laugh, Love. Sue retired from Sarasota County Government in 2011 and spent her retirement years traveling, bowling, enjoying multiple arts & crafts, volunteering and playing games with anyone and everyone. Sue was a part of many organizations: Girl Scouts, Sarasota Bowlers Hall of Fame, APBW, Venice Basket Weavers Guild, Sarasota Surface Design Guild to name a few. Sue loved the Arts and crafted many beautifully woven baskets as well as clay, glass, fabric and paper items. Sue was a proficient bowler winning many awards over the years but also winning the hearts of all she came in contact with. She was sharp witted, loving and giving. Sue loved animals and enjoyed multiple pets throughout her life. Sue loved to volunteer and supported the Girl Scouts by becoming a volunteer troop leader for the past 7 years. Sue is survived by her brothers Kemper Slidell III (Janice) and James Slidell (Joan): nephews and nieces; Bill Slidell, Kemper Slidell IV, April Neuhaus, Justin Slidell, Ashley Schmidt: 10 great nephews and nieces as well as countless cousins and friends and by her loving dog Jibbons. Sue's ashes will be laid to rest with her loving parents Kemper and Ruth Slidell Jr. at Palms Memorial Gardens. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Toale Brothers Funeral Home located at 40 North Orange in Sarasota, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in Sue's name to Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast FL Inc.
