William A. MacCannell M.D. affectionately known locally as "Dr. Bill", passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 of natural causes in Bradenton, Florida, age 86.
Will be lovingly missed by his adored wife, Millicent (nee Munn), of nearly 64 years, and his children, Lynn MacCannell (Paul Mitten), St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada; Allen (Julia and baby Max), Kherson, Ukraine; Jane Idol (Bobby) in Bradenton, Fl., and special niece, Charlotte Melanson, Mississippi. Also left to mourn is his sister, Joyce MacCannell, and her daughter Suzanne and family, New York; son-in-law Billy Idol (Liza), Florida; and granddaughter Christine Idol Garner (Bryan), Florida; along with family and friends throughout the United States and Canada. Predeceased by his parents, Hamm and Marion of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Bill was always a huge fan and supporter of the performing and visual arts, frequenting museums and enjoying everything from jazz and musicals in NYC, to plays and operas at the Ringling and Van Wezel in Florida, where he and Millicent retired in the early 2000s.
Bill loved all nature, and was a member of the Audubon Society, Mote Marine Aquarium, and Selby Gardens. He particularly loved seabirds from the rocks of Newfoundland to the beaches of Florida.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please visit www.ManasotaMemorial.com and leave a message. The family would love to hear from you!
