Rutherford, Ruth Gerhardt

Ruth Gerhardt Rutherford, 104, of Sarasota, died Oct. 31, 2009.
Ruth was born in Chicago, the daughter of Frederick and Caroline Erck. She was the tenth of 11 children. Ruth was married for 47 years to Ralph Gerhardt, who died in 1979. She later married Jack Rutherford, who also preceded her in death. Ruth lived in Chicago for her first 69 years. During that time, she was a housewife, a fashion model, prolific artist and writer of short stories.
Ruth moved to Sarasota in 1974 and resided for the past 5 1/2 years at the Heron Club. "Ruthie" was always very stylish, charming, loving and witty and will be missed very much by all of her friends and family, especially her son, Paul, and wife, Barbara, of Osprey. her daughter, Carol Horschke of Barrington, Ill., grandchildren Gerhardt Herrmann and his wife, Darcy, Katie Gerhardt, John Gerhardt and his wife, Wendy, and Gaynor Talashek and her husband, Tom, and great grandchildren, Ben, Megan and Eric Herrmann, Logan and Morgan Gerhardt, and Caroline, T.J., and Katie Ruth Talashek.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m Friday at the Heron Club, 3749 Sarasota Square Blvd., Sarasota.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
