Allan M. Lichtenstein, age 82, passed away on February 4, 2016 following a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Allan Lichtenstein was born June 29, 1933 to Bernard and Esther(Cohen) in Brooklyn, New York .
After attending Brooklyn Technical High School, he received his accounting degree from City College of New York. Upon the invitation of his uncle, Allan relocated to Sarasota in 1958 and began a 55 year career in accounting in Sarasota. Allan was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Shortly before his death, he retired from the firm of Lichtenstein, Briefman, Gardner & Thomas which he founded.
Allan utilized his financial skills not only to further the interests of his clients, but served for many years as treasurer for Temple Beth Sholom. He was a member of the Men's Club, and was a donor for the Justin Lee Weisner Preschool on the Temple grounds. He served as Campaign Finance Director and Treasurer for former state representative Thomas Danson.
An Avid golfer when he arrived in Sarasota, Allan's interest turned to tennis, one of his great joys. He frequented the Bath & Racquet Club, where he could be seen daily up until the last year of his life.
Allan and his wife of 59 years Roberta, relished their time with each other, frequenting local restaurants and theaters, and traveling the world together. During the past 20 years, this travel frequently included visits to their 3 children and 5 grandchildren whom they adored.
Allan is survived by his wife Roberta, son Richard, son Barry and wife Susan, daughter Nancy and husband Mark Herald, and grandchildren Samantha, Joshua, Alexandra, Harris and Emma. He is also survived by his sister Iris and husband Robert Levy, and brother Stanley.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth Sholom on Sunday, February 7th at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth Sholom or the . Arrangements by Toale Brothers Funeral Home.
