Craig A. Birckhead of Sarasota, FL died January 8, 2018, at his home. Craig is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Aileen Birckhead; his parents: Guy M. and Cynthia (Craig) Birckhead; 6 brothers: Guy, Jr., Wiley, Joseph, Jay, Daniel and George Birckhead. He is survived by his step daughter, Sandy King of Bradenton; sister, Cynthia B. Cooper of Lawrenceville, GA; granddaughters: Brandi Voges and April King Babb; great granddaughters: Ashley Voges and Miranda Babb; great grandchildren: Syrus Hudson, Leilani, Cyrianna and Keimani Hart; sister in law, Vernel Davidson; three nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Craig was born in Charlottesville, VA December 6, 1938. He graduated from Miller Military School. He excelled in his studies and in sports, particularly track and field with record setting pole vault skills. Craig served in the US Army as an SP4 having been honorably discharged in 1963.
He was a lifetime member of the Venice Moose Lodge #1308, where he was past Governor, Herder and earned the Pilgrim Degree of Merit and Lifetime Fellowship Degree, member of the American Legion Post #159, member of Disabled American Veterans. Craig retired from Manatee County Building Department as Plans Examiner. Burial will take place at 2:45 PM, Friday January 12, 2018 at Venice Memorial Gardens. So sorry for your loss. We are so thankful for Craig and all that he meant and contributed to the Moose organization. The children at Mooseheart and seniors at Moosehaven benefitted greatly from his leadership and generosity. You remain in our prayers.
