To The Hon. Alcee Hastings: I will miss my friend, mentor and community representative dearly. I have known this man for so many years, and I had made him my "Go-To Person" . . . Whenever there was a challenge relevant to our betterment, he would always lend an ear, and provide insightful, no-nonsense advice and direction. I cannot begin to count the numerous times he has stepped out of government meetings and taken my calls. He always referred to her as "his Sweetheart" publicly -- To his wife, family, constituents, staff, frat brothers, I can only share your pain and pray for the courage to continue. I will miss my Community Activist . . . one of the last pioneers . . . A True Leader and Activist. God's speed to all of us as we share the need for courage during our loss of a dear, dear friend.

Congressman Hasting has always been like family. My father Judge Edward Rodgers and Alcee attended Florida AM first law school for African Americans so there was always gatherings of the 2 over the years. They would say that most of the attendees became judges or other high profile position. They were so much alike in the way they would make humor of their lives and every day situations. They both have passed on and my hope is that they would see each other and will be able to joke about their lives and times. My upmost condolence to family and love ones.

My deepest condolences to the family of one of the greatest men that ever walked this earth. I cannot ever in my lifetime thank him enough for his dedication and efforts to end the dog and cat meat trade in Asia. He is my hero. A righteous man whom I honor and respect right down to my soul. I am so lucky to have been able to have met him, work with his office and even sit in his chair on my trips to DC to help push his legislations against the trade. He is forever in our heart and I honestly do not know what we are going to do without him. I really don’t.
What are we going to do?
He is already missed so much. It’s because of him that gave me purpose.
I will be dedicating my petition against the trade in his memory. He was such an incredible human being and heaven is lucky to have him. To the family again I’m so sorry for this devastating loss.
Rest In Peace Congressman Alcee Hastings. I hope to meet you again one day in the afterlife.

With my most sympathetic regards to the Hastings family, close friends of Alcee, Congressional colleagues, and remaining social justice crusaders, kindly know in my absence to attend a funeral service, per his Honorable's personal request, I will never forget Representative Alcee Hastings assistance with a wage theft case, as well as our time working together as an Ally of the Human Rights Campaign from 2012-2015, when I was Co-Chair of the South Florida Steering Committee. I have requested personal representation in my absence/ability to travel, at the congressional memorial in Washington, D.C., and the Congressional Black Caucus.

At some point, I hope to attend his celebration of life in South Florida, where Representative Hastings lived for almost 60 years.

A huge void now exists in those to continue his Civil, Human and Victim Rights Advocacy. Rest in peace, knowing you touched many lives, some who do not even know what you have done for them, to never forgot, Pax Vobis Cum.
