Growing up Elaine was a second mom to me and my sister. Later she gave me my first job teaching for the Community Class Program that she built at the University of Delaware. She then gave me a room in her house to live in my first year of college. Giving is the best word to describe Elaine, she gave to help others at every opportunity.

I am devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of Elaine. What a beautiful and bright shining light she was. She had a smile that could light up a room and she was always smiling, and always had a kind word. She was so well-loved by my whole family. She knew all the kids and grandkids in the Taraskiewicz family, and always greeted us warmly. I loved how she crocheted gifts for the whole extended Ahern family each Christmas. I loved her passion and her warmth and her kindness. She had that sweet spirit that her parents had, and she especially had that bright smile like her mom did. I will truly truly miss her and I wish I could have hugged her one last time and really let her know how much she was loved. Sending love to Wes and Diane, Tim and Nancy, Terry and Cindy, and Bill, and all of their kids and grandkids.

Elaine gave her all to the children she worked with every day at Highview Elementary. She donated time and craft projects for our PTA Secret Santa Shop and found many other quiet ways to contribute. We were grateful to have her working every. single. day. for the past few years.

I was so sad to learn of Elaine's passing. She was a teacher at Summit where I worked also. I helped her find homes for her many crafts and yarns this past year. It was great to reconnect with her. What a loving and generous person. Keep the faith in this sad time.

So sad to hear the news. Elaine and the UD skating team made my college years so memorable. She was an inspirational and loving mentor. I can still hear her laugh, and I can still see that mischievous twinkle in her eye. I lived n her house for a year, along with her cats, Charley and Kelly. I’m sure they welcomed her home with open arms (paws). Elaine will surely be missed.

Fond memories are in my mind and heart of days spent in high school with Elaine. Something I read - “Maybe they’re not stars but windows through which our loved ones look down to see if we are OK. “

My Aunt Elaine was brave bold kind proud courageous fierce strong determined and inspiring. These are the qualities that made her so loved by all those who new her. She was one of my personal hero's for what she did for her Mother my Grandmother. When her help was needed she drop every thing in her life to come home and take such loving care of her Mother. What we do and say here on earth echo's into eternity, God smiles with joy when "SHE" thinks Elaine M. Ahern. May she rest forever in the same peace that she carried with her all through her life.

Love Always
