Homer Bailey Obituary

Homer Stanton Bailey, beloved patriarch to four children, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends. He is now reunited with his parents and two children who preceded him in death.
Homer Stanton Bailey, the fourth of six children, was born April 18, 1925, to John and Isabelle Bailey of Wellsville. He spent his early years in Wellsville and received his education in Cache County schools. He was drafted into the military and served in the South Pacific during World War II in the 11th Airborne Division. He was a paratrooper, and his assignment, among other things, was to jump out of perfectly good airplanes. He always had a deep sense of patriotism and was proud of his military service.
Homer then served an honorable mission for the LDS Church in the Northwestern States and also served a mission with his sweetheart, Valoy, in the Bishop's storehouse.
On April 17, 1953, he married Valoy Dutson, the girl of his dreams, in the Logan Temple for time and all eternity. Just recently they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together. Their union was blessed with four wonderful sons.
Homer worked at Hill Air Force Base for 31 years until his retirement, 12 years at Utah State University in the Physical Plant division, and 10 years at Walmart. Homer had a grand work ethic and had a love of people. He received awards and recognition for his dedicated work, and earned the love of those who worked with him.
Family was always a priority for him. He often worked two to three jobs to support them. He loved to take them on vacations, spending time camping and fishing, and traveling across the USA.
Homer was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities, including Sunday School presidencies, Mutual and High Priest group leaderships.
Homer has been a great sports fan. It was a rare event if he wasn't watching some kind of sport on TV. He was an avid Aggie fan and loved taunting the opposition. His other interests and hobbies were fishing, farming, gardening, watching westerns, and exaggerating about the size of fish he'd caught.
Dad, thanks for your unfailing service to your country, family, friends and church. You have been our example and mentor for so many years. It was an honor to return the favor and serve you these last few years. We love you Dadeeyo.
Homer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Valoy, and four siblings, Darrell Bailey, Ellen Page, Lon Bailey, Jerry Bailey, and his children Mike and Jeff. He was preceded in death by Rulon Bailey, Lynn Bailey, and two sons, Steven and Russell.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Logan Regional Hospital and staff, especially Dr. Stone and Dr. Higganbotham, the staff of the Sunshine Terrace Care center, and all the love and support from family and friends.
Services will be at noon, Saturday Oct. 19, at the Logan 9th Ward Chapel (500 N. 125 East). A viewing will be held prior to services beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Wellsville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.

We're so sorry for your loss, Valoy & family. It was a pleasure to get to know Homer a little better in these last few years. Merlin always enjoyed their visits over the years. Take care, Valoy, and I look forward to our continued visits at the HJ. Love, Cyndi

We have such fond memories of our trip to Washington D.C. with Homer and his wife in 2007 to honor our WWII veterans and to make connections between Homer and my own grandfather Homer Benson and Karl and Altha Benson. We send our love and condolences to your family at this time.
