James Corless Mendenhall

James Corless Mendenhall was born June 21, 1935, to A.J. and Louise Corless Mendenhall in Paul, Idaho. He passed away peacefully Monday, June 24, 2013, in Twin Falls, Idaho, after an honorable and well-lived life.
Jim grew up working hard on the family dairy farm and learned from the example of his parents to love the Lord and serve others. He graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah, in 1953, attended Utah State University and joined the Army Reserves. He later received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Oregon State University. He married his eternal sweetheart, Sherry Ann Hilton, on Oct. 28, 1960, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple.
Jim was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Kentucky and was dedicated to attending the temple often throughout his life.
He taught elementary school in the Minidoka County School District for 28 years, retiring in 1995. He had a true love of learning and found great pleasure in running into former students. After retiring from teaching, he worked for Amalgamated Sugar Company for several years. Jim also farmed and raised sheep after buying his grandparents' farm - the home he was born in. He loved to read, garden, visit with people and find connections with absolutely everyone.
He is survived and missed by his wife, Sherry, his children; Marcia (Roger) Crane, Michael Mendenhall, Mary (Cody) Davis, May Lyn Mendenhall and Meredith (Tim) Brown; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson and his siblings; Rachel Anderson, Joyce (Darryl) Fish, Susan (Spence) Deiber, Arthur (Pam) Mendenhall, Edward (J'lene) Mendenhall, and Margaret (Jim) Bennion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Louise Mendenhall.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Emerson LDS Church, 127 S. 950 West in Paul, with Bishop Albert Belliston officiating. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th St. in Burley, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Monday at the church.
