Lindsay Chandler Obituary

Lindsay Chandler, 24, of Holland, died unexpectedly on November 2, 2017, in Grand Rapids.
Lindsay was born December 7, 1992, in Grand Rapids. She attended Black River Public School and graduated with honors from Holland High in 2011. Lindsay served honorably in the U.S. Army from 2012-2014. She loved art, dogs, music, the outdoors, native American culture, hockey, and her country. As a teenager, she was active in the Ottawa County 4H Program, training her beloved collies, Cash and Delta, in obedience and agility. She also served in the Michigan wing of the Civil Air Patrol, earning the prestigious General Billy Mitchell Award. At the time of her passing she was a student at Great Lakes EMS Academy in Grand Rapids. Along the way, she fought a valiant battle with bipolar disorder, and she became an outspoken advocate for people struggling with mental illness.
She is survived by and deeply missed by her mother, Leanne Jacques and Paul Blain of Holland; her father, Greg and Ericka Chandler of Grand Rapids; her younger sister, Megan Chandler of Pittsburgh; grandmother, Clarissa Chandler of Lincoln Park, MI; aunts and uncles, Carrie (Terry) Frost of Lincoln Park, MI, Melinda Simms of Concord, N.H., Michele (Jack) Blondin of Columbia, S.C.

It has been my honor to know Lindsay for only a short time. As I have learned more about her struggles, I have admired all the more the genuine goodness in her. That she found so much joy in the good times only proves how much she was able to find strength despite the obstacles. I admire her and that cannot change. I know she is in God's arms, her struggles now over, but will miss her and carry the image of that infectious smile with me the rest of my life.
