Family-Placed Obituary

ALICIA ROSALIND PINZARI Artist, naturalist and eclectic, Alicia Rosalind Pinzari left an enduring impression on every life she touched. Her childhood was influenced by a stern Hawaiian grandmother and an Episcopal school for girls, and fostered a remarkable creative and artistic talent. Alicia was an active participant in Hawaii's art community, working in watercolor, oils and other media. A life-long collector, Alicia collected everything from Victorian furniture to buttons and assembled a fine collection of antique porcelain dolls. Much of her artistic inspiration derived from the natural world. She was one of the first women in Hawaii to learn the ancient art of bonsai. Plants and animals flourished under her care. She served as the long-standing Curator of Exhibits at Paradise Park where she established a breeding program for critically endangered Black Palm Cockatoos, developing the first successful method for rearing their young. Alicia was a founding member of the Hawaii Parrot Fancier's Club and the Hawaii Herpetocultural Society and was one of the few people in Hawaii permitted to keep and breed dart-poison frogs. Alicia passed away on April 18, aged 75. She is survived by her son Joseph Barros; daughter Alicia Barros; grandchildren, Alika Barros, J. Tihoti Maha'a, Lucien Maha'a, Jesse Barros, Kanoe Barros; three great-grandchildren; many friends and colleagues; and two beloved Tibetan Spaniels. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD MAY 31, 3:00 PM AND IS OPEN TO ALL WHO KNEW HER. CALL (808) 262-5718 AND LEAVE A MESSAGE. Updated on 06/01/2008.
