Thomas John Binig, loving husband, father and grandfather, was called home by our Lord on July 1, 2013 at the age of 88. He was suffering from Parkinson's disease.
He was born to Anisca and Bucar Binig on October 18, 1924 and was raised in St. Louis, Missouri where he graduated from Christian Brothers College Catholic High School in 1943. Graduating during WWII, Tom attended college and Officer Candidate School at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York where he was the Commodore of the sailing fleet.
He served as a U.S.M.M. Officer from 1943 to 1946 serving aboard the S.S. Gervais, S.S. Frederic Remington and S.S. H.H. Bancroft during WWII. Following the war, he served as a LJG in the naval reserve until October 1965. Tom earned his bachelor's degree from St. Louis University followed by his law degree from the University of Arkansas Law School in June of 1951. In 1950, Tom and Mary Ann Combs, also of St. Louis, Missouri, were married settling first in St. Louis and then in Houston, Texas in 1954. Tom practiced civil litigation for insurance, property, and family law and later established himself as an oil and gas attorney and landman working for Ashland Oil, Gulf Oil, Houston Oil & Minerals Corp. and Tenneco Inc., to name just a few until retiring in 1997.
Tom was a member of the St. Louis Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association and the Texas Bar Association. He served in various volunteer capacities with the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and Opus Dei, Precinct Chairman of the Republican Party, St. Agnes Academy Boards, AAU Swimming and West University Softball Association.
His hobbies included reading, amateur photography and golf in his younger years, playing the piano, teaching water safety, coaching softball, and spending time with his family and dogs at the beach in his middle-age years and cultivating plumerias, palm, cedar and other types of trees and feeding the birds in his golden years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Binig, five children, including Cecilia Binig McCann, Martha Binig Drake, Tom G. Binig, Liz Binig Brooks and Toni Binig Shepherd, and 12 grandchildren Courtney, Nick, Lauren, Matt, Macey, Ford, Marshall, Jon Michael, Forrest, Caroline, Thomas, and Tatum. Tom was my uncle.
My mother, Marie Buha, 84, speaks of Tom very often; their early years in St. Louis together were quite colorful and certainly memorable.
So sorry to hear of his passing.

Dearest Mary Ann and family, We are sending you all of our love and deepest sympathy at this sad time of Tom's passing.
Rarely do we find friends as delightful, graceful, generous, faithful and compassionate as Tom was ... I believe he was from Missouri. That explains a lot of it. Having you, Mary Ann is more of it.
We will miss Tom, and remember him dearly, and look forward to one day sharing eternal life with him again in heaven.
His excellent example leaves a fine path of behavior for all that desire to follow a life well lived!

It was a joy knowing such an intriguing and loving gentleman. He never seemed to mind when we would invade his home and take over his kitchen for our prayer group. We will always have fond memories of him.

Mom and I are so sorry to hear of Mr. Binig's passing. He was a good neighbor and friend. The last time we saw him was maybe 10 years ago at Antonio's Mexican Grille on Holcombe, with Mrs. Binig. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. May his memory be eternal.
