Hunter Brooks

DR. HUNTER O. BROOKS Dr. Hunter O. Brooks, 83 passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013. He was born September 1, 1929, to Lawson and Winfred Hunter Brooks, in Bluefield W. Va. He obtained a BA, West Virginia State College (1950), a MA, West Virginia University (1953), Ph.D. Ed., Carnegie Mellon University. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, Buffalo Soldier, and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He was a history professor at Texas Southern University of 41 years, and taught many of the teachers in the Houston area. In addiition, he authored 16 books on the various aspects of Black History. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara Brooks, sons Hunter O. Brooks III, Ethridge C. Brooks, and Hailey A. Brooks, 2 nephews and 3 nieces.There will be a visitation on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, 3115 Blodgett, Houston, Texas 77004. The funeral services will begin at 11:00 am following the visitation at the church. Pastor Keith Edwards, officiating. The interment, with military honors, will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
