Elizabeth (Betty) Norris Preston passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday December 3, 2011. She was the oldest of three children born to Buford and Elizabeth Norris on September 17, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia. Betty moved with her family to Charlotte, North Carolina and then to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania where she met the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Richard ( Dick ) Preston. Betty and Dick began their life together in Baytown, Texas where they had their first child, a daughter, Deborah. A few years later they moved to New Jersey and settled down for almost 30 years. During that time they had a son, Richard and another daughter, Cynthia.
Betty was an active leader in the community writing a weekly bridge column while she played master bridge throughout the state. She was an avid bowler and leader in the local DAR chapter. She was a fierce political campaigner and led many local chapters of the Republican Women's Club. Later in life, she became a wonderful golfer and ultimately achieved her 'hole in one' status.
Betty and Dick moved to Houston, Texas in 1980 and had a fabulous life for the next 30 years. They enjoyed traveling to see their children, friends and the world. They were true snowbirds and spent every winter in Delray Beach, Florida. Betty was a member of the Westlake Club, Pine Forest Country Club, Sam Sorrell's DAR, the Memorial Women's Club and played bridge with several different bridge clubs.
Betty loved her family more than anything else. She is survived by her daughter Debi, husband Dave and their children, Elizabeth and Jeffrey; son Rich and his wife Nancy and their children Jordon and Andrew and his wife Charlotte and daughter Cyndi, husband Rick and their children Kristin, Cole and Preston. Betty was predeceased in death by her beloved husband Dick on December 16, 2009. The family would also like to give their thanks to Ladonna Williams and the staff at Ladonna's Dream Care who took care of Betty for the last few years.
A memorial service was held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery and Betty was laid to rest, along with Dick's ashes, on December 10, 2011 followed by a private family reception.
